160 baht for you own room up Chaiyapoom opposite Anzac bar... if too shitty talk to Chris in Anzac bar, he often discounts in low season to not much more than the hostel

This version of me will not stay the same, tomorrow I will be different.

But is it girl-friendly?

i don't suppose we can bonk the TGs in the dorm with other backpackers onlooking? :WhoSaw1:

300thb is for beds only.

for personal rooms, i'm sure it costs more...

Perhaps B100-B150, but at B300 per-night for a dorm-bed, this seems just a bit over-priced ? Especially when one looks at what local GHs charge, for an individual room !

Another cheaper nearby alternative hostel, just off Soi Buakow is Asia Backpackers, they get excellent reviews.  http://asia-backpackers.com/pattaya/

Putting in bunk-beds to some ground-floor bedrooms, doesn't suddenly turn a hotel into a proper hostel either, it takes knowledgeable staff & facilities like a common-room & a self-catering kitchen, purely in my own opinion.

What's the problem??! - In 1974 I shagged a girl in a bunk bed in the girl's dorm of an English youth hostel. That was hardcore. I had to cross a courtyard in my pjs in pitch black after everyone was asleep and was locked out of the boy's dorm when I got back.

To make matters worse I had to wait 42 years to brag about it on the Internet.

Call yourselves mongers???? Where's your sense of adventure pussies???!!!

(Post 400 - Peace!)

Cheapest bed I've ever seen on booking.com was a 80bt per night dorm room in Bangkok

Also saw a $3 a night dorm room on the beach in Sihanoukville last year

For young people just wanting somewhere to sleep, good prices I guess & makes a long trip to SE Asia affordable

I used to pay B50 per-night, for a basic small single-room with shared shower/toilet downstairs, at a guesthouse up in Mae Salong, they recently doubled that to B100 per-night, their first price-increase in almost a decade.

Nowadays I go for the luxury-option up there, a double-bed bungalow with en-suite & cable-TV, B300 per-night. Because I do like my comforts.

While staying there, I met someone who was teaching English in Laos as a volunteer, and had just B5,000 total to spend on a month's hitching round the North-West.

Save 10% on their posted-price , and pay only B270/night, by booking via www.hostelworld.com !

Or from only B250/night at nearby Asia Backpackers, or B260 at the Jomtien Hostel.

We offer this room at 350baht per night, toilet/shower is private to the room but not en-suite just a few yards along the corridor.

And that private-room at the Tales is potentially for double-occupancy, so B175 per-person per-night, therefore far better value-for-money !

But the backpackers of today, god bless their cotton-socks for at-least getting off their arses & coming here, will become the family-tourist package-holiday-travelers in a decade-or-so, and then in turn become P-A members twenty years later !

And we all like our dosh to go further, which is why I now use perfectly-adequate guest-houses instead of staying at the Amari-Orchid like I did, when I first came to Pattaya half-a-lifetime ago !

Ye Gods, I wish I knew then, what I know now !

And I wish I still had the moolah I blew, as a 10-day escapee, from the Sand-Pit in the mid-80s !

Not to mention the staying-power which I once took for granted ?

Youth is wasted on the young ! :SoWhat1:

Now, where did I put my Viagra & walking-stick, I've got a Pattaya-trip coming-up soon !  :GoldenSmile1:

So much for "proven-returns" & their business-model, as claimed in the franchising-advertisement.

Running hostels for profit isn't as easy as some might at-first think it is !

But some of us have done it successfully, just not in Thailand, where there's an awful lot of low-priced competition of all standards of cleanliness & comfort, from guest-houses & budget hotels.

It's only when you contemplate traveling elsewhere, and research how expensive basic clean accommodation can be, that you realise what good-value-for-money we enjoy here !
