Booked this place in November via booking.com with the usual free cancellation and pay on arrival..... They took the money within 24 hours of booking and now I am trying to get money back via booking.com but not all straightforward... Just a note so people are aware, I have cancelled room but at the moment I am a few hundred quid out of pocket until this is all sorted

Was there a problem with the room that you needed to cancel? Otherwise, this is more a problem with booking.com than the studio.

That's why I use Agoda, never had a problem with cancellations, customer service good and refunds have been quick.

I think the OP meant that the Condo took the payment even though the card number was only given to guarantee the booking.

I use Booking.com regularly in the UK. The usual procedure is to make the booking, give the card as a guarantee then pay the hotel on arrival. I've never had a problem with them. I often make the booking to make sure of a room then check for lower rates closer to the time. Easy to cancel the original booking.

They do have some rates that require immediate payment when booking but it doesn't sound as if that was the case here.

I don't use Agoda as they quote the rate without taxes etc so you can't see the true cost when you search.

Both are part of the Priceline group.  But as far as I know, they're operated independently.
