UN calls on Thailand to account for its 82 ‘disappeareds’

The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein Wednesday urged the Thai government to take decisive and sustained efforts to investigate the whereabouts of at least 82 people listed as disappeared, including prominent Muslim lawyer Somchai Neelapaijit who went missing in 2004.

"We really would like to enable a win-win outcome resulting from transparent investigations for all stakeholders, but unfortunately all the relevant records were destroyed in an accidental fire 36 hours ago".

 

"In a sincere effort to be cooperative with the the UN's request where is it exactly; you would like us to take the 'decisive and sustained efforts to investigate the whereabouts of at least 82 people listed as disappeared, including prominent Muslim lawyer Somchai Neelapaijit who went missing in 2004"  ?
