The old chestnut of a farang in Thailand. Westerners do try and marry for love (though its not a great success) So a man brings his money over to Thailand. A Thai lady marries for money, security and a better life for her family (maybe some marry for love too, but its a small minority).

A man can be considered shallow for choosing looks, so can a lady be shallow for choosing money. If you spend enough time with someone, there will generally be a relationship or real friendship, if both make the effort.

However there can be resentment from the local population of a farang with money, some will love the attraction or chance to improve their circumstances, others will dislike the farang for his lack of interest in Thai culture and his efforts to mix and fit it with society. Plus some are jeolous of the money, its unhealthy competition.

For my generation, WW2 had the same effect on our grandfathers, The US soldiers were stationed in the UK and the resentment was just the same a saying was" Over paid, Over sexed, and Over here" The US soldier had much more in material offerings than the local. So many heads were turned.

Its no different here in Thailand today.... so maybe like in the past the local man has to up his game to compete..... there will always be someone richer, someone more powerful, or someone who can offer more, but real success comes from how you treat people....

Thailand has so many unmarried mothers, who are forced to leave the child with family and earn a living away from home, the west also has this problem, but not in the same numbers. Sometime a culture does not help its people...... sometime people have to look at themselves before holding grudges against incommers.... You reap what you sow.

The UK has its fair share of unmarried mothers, difference is they go on benefits
