Travel insurance for people from the United states

I'm trying to get travel health insurance and I'm a us citizen, it appears that each country has there own thing going and the comany you may use in Canada or else where does it work for a us citizen so I'm needing specific companies good for us citizens.. I've looked a bit online at say aig or for ex and is extremely pricy for a 4 month stay... any tips appreciated...

Insuremytrip.com is a good site to compare travel insurance companies & policies. My vacations are always less than a month, so the rates are a lot lower. Good luck

One that I've found that looks interesting is http://www.tourismthailand.org/ThailandTravelShield/  I figure if Tourism Thailand runs it, it should work in Thailand no problem...
