Muldoon to Da Nang

Recommended Posts

Was thinking about driving there in the new year, we will travel from Ubon, drive to the freedom bridge, through Laos and on into Vietnam! Surely it must be cheaper than flying to Bkk then getting 3 tickets to Vietnam.

Be interested if anyone's done this. Cheers

There are few requirements if you want to take car to Laos.

1. You must own the car.

2. Obtain Car Passport from the Motor transport office in your area.

3. Take all car paperwork with you ie proof of ownership, insurance, payment records. At border they will actually check Car passport not just accept it.

4. There is a fee of 300 THB (for 1 person) to cross the bridge and Lao visa fee (1500 THB).

5. Your Thai car insurance is not valid in Laos. You can get it after you pass Lao immigration (it used to cost 200 thb / week).

As for Vietnam it used to be possible with consulate pre-approval or escort until end of 2013. Since then only Vietnamese and Laos registered vehicles are allowed to enter Vietnam.

I guess you'll have to fly after all.

That's really useful information! Thanks ever so much, yea sounds like the Vietnam part is a no no.

I own my own car and it's paid for so maybe we might settle for a few days in Laos. As I have all the documents.
