Hi I decided to book a trip back to uk and went online and found a reasonable flight BKK to Leeds/Bradford airport .Good transfer times

and one stop .  This is for my son and me  30 march to 29 april 2016.all went well flights booked pending payment. As i have been in pattaya 11 plus years  i have only a debit card but the booking said credit or debit no problem. Later got an E-mail bank regect payment.

So i went to my bank and they said cant pay online at krungsri via debit only credit card but i can have a credit card if i want. So i said ok

i will change to credit card ,gave her my passport and she went to copy She came back sorry can no do your too old .65 is the limit age for credit card.   Are all banks the same as regards payment online with debit  and age limit for credit card.. If so it seems i can only use a travel agent to book and pay. Any experience with this anyone.   pete

Perhaps they are thinking your too old, and are on deaths doorstep and they don't want to be left holding the bill that a dead man left them.

Overall it seems weird that they would tell you this...but it is Thailand. TITS???

Cant imagine an age limit on Credit Cards. Maybe a Credit Limit.

Have you tried Paypal?

With Kbank you get a web card you can use to pay for stuff online, check to see online if your bank has something similar

In thailand I'd suggest you use Travel Agents anyway rather than online. Many times I've booked in reverse and find agents cheaper than online

I tried to books a flight from Udon Thani to BKK with the new Thai Lion the price was 560baht so it was a bargain the only problem I had was that they would not accept my Visa card because it was not a Thai one. I have used this card all over the world without a problem so I was not impressed. In the end I had to let my Thai lady friend to help me out and pay with her card and I gave her the cash.

It doesn't make sense but in Thailand that's not unusual.

When I opened an account with Krung Thai in July I opted for the debit card that can be used online but the teller said it still won't be accepted by Thai Airlines for online bookings!

As others have said, use a travel agent or go to the airline office if there is one near you.

Also be aware that many airlines and booking agents charge 5% extra if you use a credit card.

Next trip Aug 31-Sep13, theme: try more freelancers, get dirty! Note to self: TAKE MORE PHOTOS!!!

With Krungsri (and few other Thai banks) you have the option to ask for secured credit card - it means you have to deposit certain amount of money to one of their saving accounts. Credit limit will be 90% of deposited amount. This card is equal to other income-based credit cards but you cannot take deposited money out until you cancelled your credit card and all your debts have been paid. So basically you are borrowing your own money. Good thing is that you still get interest on saving account.

One problem I often find, with my HSBC MasterCard, is that I get charged an extra 3% for payments in anything-other-than my base-currency (Sterling).

Some airline websites refuse to let me select the preferred currency-of-payment, for example British Airways recently refused to charge me for BKK-LHR-BKK in anything other than Thai Baht, so I had to use Expedia to make the booking.

I've also had payments rejected if I've used a slightly-different home-address, it requires the commas & spaces & hyphens to be exactly what appears on my credit-card statements, or the bank's computer simply declines the payment.

Luckily I don't now have much hair remaining, to tear out in frustration ! :GoldenSmile1:

The solution is simple: get credit card from bank which doesn't charge currency conversion fees on purchases abroad in foreign currencies.

If you want to pay in gbp on BA website (or any other for that matter) make sure that you choose your location as UK (websites usually redirect you to local website based on your ip location).
