Privi Suites Review

I stayed at the Privi Suites between 17 and 20 Sep for 3 nights.

The frst point I would like to make is that very few people seem to know where it is I had to try a few different taxis before one of them finally figured out where it was with a bit of help from someone over the radio. Also on another day when I was walking back from a slightly different direction than usual I found mysef walking past it, there are signs but they do not really stand. It is located on second road near 13/2 alley but I can't remember the name of the actually alley it was on.

First impressions of the hotel are good, it is perhaps a little ostenatatious but it looks fairly clean. I had booked the premium room at a price of about 1200thb through Agoda which was decent considering the rates on their site state that the walk in rate is 4000thb and special rate is 2400thb. If I had booked the room at either of those rates, not to spoil the review, but I would be extremely dissappointed. Anyway I was a little late checking in at about 10.00 a clock and so the guy who was there on nights cheked me in. I can't say it was a great first impression, I'm not the most smiley welcoming of people, but this bloke had the disposition of Eeyore, everything seemed to be too much trouble. I checked in and got my key to my room and was shown round it, I took my shoes off and went to look out of the window only to received a couple of wet socks, I realised that the heavy rain form the previous few days had managed to seap in round the window seal and had flooded half the room. I went back down and got it sorted out with the female manageress who apologised profusely and moved to another room. This one was dry at least.

The room was quite well equipped with a shower, jacuzzi bath, a couple of sofas, a mini bar, tv and a room safe so the facilities  were not a problem with the room. I was a bit worried after spotting a hairclip and a bit of rubbish on the sofa about the cleaniness, I mean if some thing fairly obvious is not completely clean there is liable to be problems elsewhere. I had a through check and although I wouldnt say it is the cleanest room in the world they had got all the most important parts eg. clean bathroom, bed sheets etc. On the subject of the bathroom it was not a separate room but rather a divided off part of the same room, this wasn't such a problem for me but if you are the type of chap who can stink out whole rooms, or can't go if you know other people can hear you then it might not be for you. One thing to note that may be a problem for some is that the hot water is solar powered, for the whole time I was there it was at hottest mildly warm, this wasn't a problem for me as I'm not a huge fan of hot showers but it would have been nice to have the choice. For me one of the biggest problems was the smell of smoke, it was extremely pervasive and even the girl I brought back commented on it ( I am a non smoker but have a lot of friends who smoke and usually it doesn't bother me).

The other major problem I had with the room was the lax security, for one the room safe while of a decent size was not anchored to the wall or floor and so could easily be picked up and moved. The other problem was with the cleaners, the first thing I noticed on returning to my room was that the door had been left unlocked this may have just been forgetfulness but was still disconcerting. Secondly they had also opened a window which usually is no big problem but this particular window was easily accessable through a 1m wide ledge from all the rooms on that floor and side of the building. It maybe just a little paranoia but it didn't sit well with me, luckily I had taken my valuables with me and there didn't appear to have been anyone messing with my stuff and after this there was no problems,

Apart from that I will just say that it had a great location within walking distance of Walking Street and LK Metro.

To sum up I would give them 6/10 for the price I got and would stay again but only for 1 or two nights, if it was longer I would definitely look for another hotel. The hotel is decent but with a little work it could be incredible and worth the money they purport to charge.

It used to be very good before considering the price, the size of the rooms, good wifi and a friendly front office manager.

Now, all rooms are moldy and in dire need of renovation, the wifi is slow to nonexistent, lax security, no hot water at all and moody front office! Avoid it!
