Get checked for Sleep Apnea

For a long time i felt sleepy during the day.

Drinking a lot of coffee helped me.

I was also overweight and getting depression sometimes.

What worried me was a visit to Thailand where a ladyboy stayed overnight and was so shocked in the morning she told me that i had stopped breathing sometines and she had to push me back to breathing.

Well i didnt really take notice and went back to my routine.

But i started to feel very sleepy especially in the afternoon and no energy to exercise.

Eating more as well as well as depression sometimes.

As well as erectile problems.

The doctor checked my testerone, all good then suggested a sleep study.

Nothing wrong with my sleep i said.

To cut a long story short i went for a sllep study only to find i had Apnea .

I rented a CPAP machine several weeks ago and have got used to it wearing a mask.

The machine reads my slleep on its computer, for example i slept 7 hours and 17 episodes of apnea were recorded in that time, an improvement from 52 my first time.

As im now exercising everyday, something i didnt have the energy or interest before im losing weight and having less apnea episodes.

For those who cant take the nose mask try a full face mask .

You will feel a lot better with a CPAP machine so get a sleep study done .

Im waking up most times now full of energy and get up and go as well as more positive outlook.

Had a problem with occasional bouts of apnea until recently (almost a year now) when i tried something solely by chance, due to breaking my wrist bones sleeping in my usual way became impossible, I had to stop sleeping facing the left side and ended up switching to my right side, (fingers crossed) have not had it at all since.

This is supposed to be good, never asked if its available in Thailand, but probably is. Anyone take it?

What is PROVIGIL (modafinil), and what does it do?

PROVIGIL is a prescription medicine used to improve wakefulness in adults who are very sleepy due to one of the following diagnosed sleep disorders: narcolepsy, obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), or shift work disorder (SWD)

There's a chap on here who takes his machine to thailand with him. He posted some pics in a thread.

Not something I would like to have.

Oh yes - that was me.  Falling asleep during the day at the slightest opportunity.  I was very fat.  Now 100Kg from 160Kg and no more issues.

Lose weight or get a CPAP machine.

I think i have apnea as i snore very heavy & sometimes my wife says i stopped breathing & then all of a sudden i give a heavy breath in & out but i presumed it was nothing so i went to my doctor & he wanted me to go for a test but i could'nt be arsed, he also told me about the mask. I'm working shift work for the last 17 years so i suffer from (SWD) which means i'm always tired so i need to have a snooze during the day when i'm not working or when i'm on holidays... It's not a nice feeling but i'm retiring in another 3 months so hopefully by this time next year i should be ok... :ThumbUp6:

you described sleep apnea for sure.   Your heart stops due to lack of air, you then cough etc and it starts again.  eventually it will give you heart problems, 100%.   check it out

I have a CPAP but don't use it as much as I should I suppose.

I also started sleeping on my side. The side position, based on recent studies, seems to be best for the brain as it allows waste products to drain most effectively during sleep.

There are cons to side sleeping, pressure on organs and your arms getting squished.

I have never heard of anyone that went for a sleep study and wasv told that they didn't have sleep apnea

I agree, they dont pick them at random, and not many are going for the hell of it.    If you heart, and breathing is stopping nightly, and you choke or cough to get it started again, you will be one of the ones they say have it.......because you do

they hook you up to a whole lot of machines when you are trying to sleep, so you can see the results yourself.  my heart stopped 40 times, the longest 40 seconds. Yep, got it and saw the results, scary
