Buying STI drugs over the counter... where?

I have never had an STI but hear the pain from some of them can be unbearable. I don't think there's anything magical about a Dr's medical evaluation for these things and want to keep some stock on hand in case I get hit with horrible symptoms in my room. (I plan to hit the clinic right after).

Anyone know where you can buy STI meds without a prescription?

Any pharmacy in Pattaya will sell you Zithromax which are strong antibiotics for 500 to 600 baht but you can you as much harm as good by self medicating.

My personal opinion is you should always go to a health professional but if you want to self medicate these are a good as option as any.

There's no unbearable pain from any STI in the early stages. I've never had an STI develop untreated into advanced stages, so perhaps there is unbearable pain then, but in the early stages no unbearable pain but sometimes a mild discomfort when urinating.

So as soon as you have symptoms of any STI you immediately go to a doctor specializing in VD treatment. You'll be tested, the infection identified, and the antibiotic to best treat that particular infection will be given to you.

It's very unwise of you here when you say you want to treat yourself with meds and hit the clinic later, because the meds you take may not be the right ones for that strain but by taking them you can hinder the culture tests.

How about sleeping tablets or anti depressants ? Are the available over the counter?

Back a couple years all these sorts of things could be bought OTC in Thailand pharmacies, but there were some changes to the regulations. Now pharmacies are not allowed to sell these meds. So if you need anything like Valium/Zanax you'll need to go to a clinic like BuaKhao clinic, that has doctors.

I believe that even with a prescription Xanax is illegal to supply in Thailand. The last time I tried (perhaps 2 years ago) it was available but the price had increased significantly.

How much for a visit to clinic and how much is "substantial increase" ?

Thanks guys.

BuaKhao clinic will sell it OTC, I got some valium from them a couple months ago when I had some lower back pain and had trouble sleeping, I think it was 15Bt for a 10m blue tab. They had Zanax as well, it was more expensive, from memory 30Bt a tab.  If you had to talk with the doctor there it would only be about 100Bt extra.

BuaKhao clinic would be your best bet. Either the gals behind the counter will supply you, or you may need to talk with the doc.

Not far from the corner of Soi Chaiyaphum & Soi Buakhao. If you walk out of Chaiyaphum onto BuaKhao, turn right and walk about 50 meters, you'll see a small clinic.

Better discuss with your doctor first mate, if you have medical issues (and head injuries) you don't want to be taking meds OTC that may have ill effects for you. At least talk first with the doc at Buakhao clinic and tell him your medical history.
