How accurate are Agoda photos and descriptions?

Using Agoda and Booking.com from Australia for a hotel in Thailand the 17% is included in the price!

totally agree. for my private hotel reservations i normally use booking.com, also for the reasons described above. However i use for business travel always agoda, the company is paying for the hotel expenses and i collect the points and once in a while when travelling privately i use those points to cash-in for a stay at a flash 5 star hotel....

I was about to ask when the last time these people that kept going on about the "hidden" charges last used Agoda but you beat me to my point. That said, I disagree with "always has!" ... up until about 2-3 years ago they did actually add them on the booking page for the vast majority of hotels and not the initial pages.

I think it has something to do with each country's laws about displaying the Vat/Gst!  Similar to the USA where the tax in not displayed on the price-tag at a supermarket only when it is tallied up at the check out is the tax added.

Yep, you appear to be right there. Just did a check using a proxy and from the US it says "Not included in room price: hotel tax 7%, Service charges 10%". Never could figure out my bill when shopping in the States

Yep, you appear to be right there. Just did a check using a proxy and from the US it says "Not included in room price: Hotel tax 7%, Service charges 10%". Never could figure out my bill when shopping in the States

I have booked hotels from Australia using Agoda for hotels in Jakarta which have had everything displayed upfront, once in Jakarta and re booking said hotel through Agoda the taxes where added at the end!

I know... it's always "Buyers beware" - but to me it is the kind of "under-handed" way to lure in potential Customers.... That's all.

Obviously Australian advertising laws require taxes to be included. Most other countries don't so they show them as extra in the fine print. That is obvious, isn't it?

Most of the pictures are accurate but the pictures are old. At the end it all depends upon how old the property is.

mostly I got accurate rates and offers from Agoda, if you book rooms well in advance.

 

only, last time when I booked room through Agoda for Pattaya three months before my trip, they charge me 1150 thb per night, where as the hotel was directly selling their rooms to walk in clients for 750 thb per night with breakfast !!!
