Meakong river at very high levels and threatening to flood towns close by

I've just been messaging with a Thai friend who lives up in the large town of Nakom Pahnom which is on the banks of the Meakong river.

She's told me the officials there are predicting it will only take another day or two of rain and the mighty Meakong is going to burst it's banks all the way down to Ubon.

She told me the authorities are very worried about an oncomming major disaster for Issan.

Anyone know more about it?

She has told me that this year the rains were late, but thre rain has been particularly heavy since the onset of monsoon season.

My hopes are with the Issan people who get a rough deal as it is.
