I have been to BH Photo in NYC. Meh. Cute overhead railway thingie, but...

Yodobashi Akiba (Yodobashi Camera Akihabara) in Tokyo is where it's at. They have pretty much the entire lens program for Canon, Nikon and Sigma in a customer-reachable area, along with working camera bodies. All without having to interact with a sales clerk. The lenses and bodies have anti-theft wires, but the lee-way is close to 1 m. It felt weird handling lenses and bodies worth $8000 without direct supervision...

(There's a sales clerk per brand hovering behind you, but so far away that even a very timid person like myself doesn't feel flustered. Gotta love the japanese.)

On the west coast USA, one can not beat San Jose Camera.

Since I didn't go to any shops besised Thailand and Hong Kong, I'd say the best ones:

- In Hong Kong is the SIm City building in Kowloon. Tons of small shops selling lots of 2nd hand lenses and they also buy your stuff.

- In Thailand, Fotofile shop at MBK (5th fl I think). However, that's a Canon only shop, but they took some of my used stuff and gave more than people were willing to pay when trying to sell on facebook.

Most stores always have almost the same things at the same price. What matters most for me is if they accept trade-ins.

Living the dream!

Strawberrypi got it right I think.I always thought B&H Photo was the best in the world.Certainly has the reputation,& the stock is undeniably massive.but having recently been to Tokyo it can't compare to the hands on experience of Yodabashi.Every camera, every lens on display,a floor just of tripods,a floor dedicated to just camera bags etc etc plus another identical building next door.Floors & floors of camera goodies. If you are after Mint used equipment, with meticulous service, just a few yards away is Map Camera which I would also rank above B&H Photo in New York, especially at todays Sterling/Yen exchange rate.Went to Sim City in Kowloon,OK but no comparison to Tokyo.

Shengxian Photography Market in Guangzhou (Canton) is a street full of photography-related shops and malls. If you don't find it there, it doesn't exist.

Few years ago I had to go there to pick up a Hasselblad viewfinder for my boss. The spare part was for a 30 year old Camera and the only place to buy it (worldwide) was a shop in that street that specialises on classic cameras.
