16 Cambodian garment workers killed in horrific road smash

PHNOM PENH (AFP) - At least 16 Cambodian garment workers were killed and 22 injured on their morning commute Tuesday when a bus crashed into the van transporting them, officials said.

How sad , RIP to the dead , noticed that Garment factory making billions in the western world from cheap labour .

 

The multi-billion dollar garment industry employs about 650,000 people in Cambodia and is a key source of foreign income for the impoverished country.

I've seen these workers travelling to worked packed into the back of trucks standing up, but they're saying this was a van.

 

If it's one of those I'm thinking of I've been in one when there were 19 in it and it was ridiculous - there were 38 in this one.

 

The death toll is up to 18 so far.

 

It seems they were wiped out by a night bus from HCMC overtaking a car and hit them head on.

 

7am on their way to work - for about $120/month - families will get $100 compensation and free funerals.

 

The bus driver is under arrest - unusual in Cambodia as they usually just run away.....maybe he couldn't.
