Book now for Xmas/ new year?

Bit of a lame question i know, but in all my trips i have never been there over the festive season completely and fancy giving it a stab this year.  Thought i would ask on here for some reliable advice....

I would obviously like to be there before xmas and after new year , but online searches are throwing back some terrifying prices for say....20 Dec to 5 Jan...7, 8, even 900 plus!  Kayak has some good cheapie connecting flights but most of these change wildly as soon as you move the days either way. There seems to be no way to get a reasonable price for the whole Xmas period if i book now....

Would it be better to book now for a trip that just misses xmas , or wait longer and hope they come down nearer the time?

Any regular festive season mongers out there?

Cheers.

Always find that before 19 th December is cheaper , €400 less , also on 31 st December on New Year eve . I always go on cheaper flight in Xmas time , saves me couple of hundred to go towards the condo rental cost . :)

Cheers Jocky!   Its weird how they work the pricing out....i just saw one deal where it was cheaper to actually fly on xmas day than on the 20th. Then another that was the complete reverse.

Very confusing.

I reckon , most people don't want to fly out on Xmas day and New year Eve , that is why the flight is cheap with plenty of empty seat . I always book in November for December flights . Worked for me everytime . But you try shop around the website , when seeing the cheapest flight on site , it is a make your mind up time , cos the next day it is gone .. My favourite website would be Sky scanner along with ebookers and Last minute .

I flew out on NYE last trip , Champagne all the way , great trip and much cheaper than other dates around that period ;)

If it floats, flies or fucks It's probably cheaper to rent ...

If you are looking to be in Pattaya over the whole period (ie including Christmas and New Year)...I don't think the prices will come down much between now and then.

In fact, the nearer we get to the festive period the higher they will go.

I got back from my last trip at the start of February and by the end of that week had booked 2 further trips.

August for £450 /Thai

January for £575 w/Singapore Airlines

I've been looking at fares for Christmas for a few months now (albeit in Business) and they haven't shifted much so far - apart from some cheaper options being fully booked.

For most airlines, fares go up from Dec 11. It's also generally cheaper to return after Jan 4. Flying in Business, it's actually cheaper to fly before 11th and return after 4th and pay the extra hotel etc for the extra week!

You can sometimes find slightly cheaper fares flying Christmas Day or Boxing Day, or New Year's Eve, but not as cheap as they used to be.

I can't commit to a booking yet anyway, so am hoping some fares will come down - especially Direct - but I'm not holding out any real hope.

In June there is sometimes a small window usually a week when the prices are discounted on flights for Xmas and my advice is to set up some price alerts with both Kayak and sky scanner.

I booked my flights for departing on the 11th December and returning on the 4th Jamuary 2016 on the 10th January 2015 and paid £629 using both Austrian and Swiss airways with very short layovers and departing LHR.

I have been coming to LOS for Christmas and New Year for the past 15 years and the most I have paid for Economy is under £700. Good luck in your search whatever you decide to do.
