Anyone Have Their Tonsils Removed As An Adult?

I have been having recurring tonsillitis and the doctor that I see here thinks that I should consider having them removed.  Anyone have their tonsils removed as an adult?  I was quoted 100,000 baht from Bangkok Pattaya Hospital, which is a ridiculous price considering the procedure only takes an hour.

I had mine removed in my late 20's. The procedure is simple enough although the recovery time is longer than for a child. Expect an 'uncomfortable' but not too painful throat for a few weeks after.

Never had a sore throat since so in my experience it was worth it.

"There are less painful and less risky ways of doing the surgery now. These include shaving away the tonsils and laser procedures.

The recovery from traditional surgery can cause pain and difficulty swallowing for up to 10 days. Recovery from the other methods is shorter and less painful.

Had mine done in my twenties, they nicked a small artery, which caused bleeding, which ended up with me throwing up blood. Was back to normal in a couple of days

The lass had hers done a couple of years ago for the same reason. She went to Pattaya Memorial and underwent the op by Electrocauterization. She had a little discomfort the following day and was fine within 3 days. Her case was a little complicated as she had suffered so many attacks of tonsillitis there was a degree of scarring.

100,000k seems very high to me this is usually a simple procedure taking less than an hour in total. I would ask around at other hospitals if I were you.

Nothing wrong in getting a 2nd opinion/price check.

Thats for the information guys.  I am definitely going to be looking at other hospitals and doctors and may put it off until I return to the U.S. unless I can get a reasonable price.  To put the price in perspective, my oldest son was born by c-section at Bangkok Pattaya Hospital a few years ago and it cost +/- 35k and Mrs. Altec123 was in the hospital for 4 days and my son was taken care of in the nursery the entire time.  I know things go up in price, but jesus.......

A quick update - I really wonder about the Doctors and health care here sometimes.  Unlike Doctors at home they really do not ask questions and listen to their patients, who can help their doctor with their diagnosis.

I elected not to have the surgery done because I was not convinced it was the underlying cause of my problems, just the result.  I did a bunch of research on my symptoms and underlying possible causes of my ongoing health issues over the past year (recurring sinus infections, chronic bronchitis, sore throat, tonsillitis, sneezing, constant coughing, etc...) and concluded that I was more than likely suffering from allergy induced asthma. Additional research indicated that one very common cause of allergies here in Thailand are dust mites.  I mentioned this to the Doctor, who looked at me with a black stare and gave me another round of antibiotics.

Anyway, I had a cleaner come and clean my room and everything in it with a vacuum cleaner with a HEPA filter with no "Dusting" allowed (took her 4.5 hours to clean the place, ), had all of the bedding washed in hot water (all laundries seem to use cold water only to save money) and threw out my pillows and replaced them with latex pillows (non allergenic) and started taking a antihistamine.  Literally overnight, all of my symptoms disappeared and I am feeling 100% for the first time in over a year.

Had mine removed in Los Angeles when I was 38, quite painful and uncomfortable on day two but within five days was back to 100% - 13 years now since I have had a sore throat so well worth the few days of discomfort.

Price wise is was day surgery, in for procedure at 8 am and out at 5. If I remember correctly the procedure was around 12 k US or at least that was what I was o formed the insurance paid.

To altec 123.

And do not forget to clean filters in AC too, if you have it.

I use my hepa vacuum cleaner for my mattress too.

Make a test. Have empty dustback, use vacuum cleaner for mattress and check the dust in back.

First time it was about 2dl, very fine dust, look like baking powder.

Now i clean my bed every second week and the dust is almost gone.

Dust mites die over 55c.
