Pattaya Beer Garden - lookin' or chillin'

When I set up the beer garden, one of my main worries was that the girls would be too pushy and upset customers who just came in to chill out.

 

As it transpires the opposite has been the case. Many of the guys and girls have been too shy to approach each other. Now it is true that some people don't want to be approached and some girls may be sitting at the bar waiting for their boyfriend to turn up. However most people at the bar are looking to make a connection.

 

To ease any shyness and to make everyone's intentions obvious we have a clever new idea in the beer garden. Chillin' or Lookin' beer mats will hopefully make everyone's intentions a little more transparent. The beer mats are green for go on one side and red for stop on the other. Anyone showing red will be strictly left on their own.

So far it seems that most people are in green mode but you can easily change your mind with a simple flick of the beer mat. The bar staff will ask you if your chillin' or lookin' when you have your first drink and turn the appropriate side of the beer mat up.

 

 

Most are going for green.

 

Really it's just a bit of fun for all to enjoy.

Thats a great idea m8....sorry to say this m8 but i went their about 5 times in july & didnt see any freelancers their. I did go early around 6pm & another time at 11pm.

 

Other than that the service was great & the food even better...the price's are very affordable as well.

On a side note - I went to a Brazilian BBQ joint last week that had a similar approach for a set price meal deal they had. Red meant you wanted no more meat, green meant your still hungry. It stayed green for quite a while.

 

I agree with the difficulty in connecting with the girls in there, I think the proximity of the punters, who are not sitting at the bar but on the tables, makes things awkward. Hope this system works well for you.

Do the things simple and easy thats the way to go!!!

 

I did enjoy goin to the PBG during my month in July and introduced my English friends to it and we all loved it, as drinks and food were great value and was chilled out with the music too.

 

Brought some girls along too that had bfined b4 and they liked it too but like my friends mentioned didnt know anything about the bar at all.

 

Pity theres lack of freelancers there (at most only saw 4-5 girls) as have been in mostly for early evenin to watch the sun goin down, very romantic i know.

 

Might I add some suggestions;

 

1. Get your PBG signage/ adverts in Thai aswell !!! as only says in English " Single girls welcome" that should be in Thai surely as these farmers daughters arent that good at reading English.

 

2. Mix up the music a bit as too much emphasis on old american heavy rock ( saw the same tracks a few times )if you want the girls staying and guys liking some more contempary music or even mix some old sixties nostalgia music in there, not just rod stewart, rolling stones, ac-dc dvds all the time.

 

3. Maybe a mid afternoon happy hour til 6-7pm or buy 1 get 1 free promotion say to get the girls and guys in b4 the nights mongering as always found it greta place to start the night.

 

 

Hope you read this and only being constructive as want to see this bar get busier and look forward to being back in Feb !!!!

I read about this today in the "blog" part of Patt. beer garden web site. Good idea.

 

I especially like the music, noise moderator system, you put in. Superb idea! I have not been to your place yet, but will definatly make that my first stop, and by the way things look, home base. You seem to have hit on all of the things that I really value, in a bar. It would be cool to see if more bar owners picked up on some of the things you are doing.

Yes the Braziian Churrascaria style of having food is a novel way of asking for women

 

 

Pete, is there anything you could do about getting rid of those flying ants which are attracted to the outside lights. Real nice setting, went the other night with some friends, like your drink prices. It's was just those insects that were annoying.
