Obviously talking when he should've been listening.

Maybe. But I'd like to know more before passing judgement.

Yes true, there are a lot of possibilities, though I never said he was wrong, I've had a few instances where keeping my mouth closed was the better part of valour, still an assumption on my part.

Talking sense will only get you into trouble :)

He being drunk makes it harder for me to give him the benefit of the doubt.

Gaee lao. mai law doi. Mai ben rai, mee daang!

Yes, He could have died. A quiet part of Soi Baukhao that is. Not much help around.

Probably 100 Baht fine each if they find His attackers.

Wonder if the guy who picked his hat up was a mate?

Three or more against one, always common in most places , cowardly acts from the scum .

Yesterday, around 10 pm I witnessed a fight right outside Skyfall agogo in WS. One big young and , off course, very drunk farang was fighting 3 small Skyfall security guys. The farang guy face was stained with blood. He was definitely on the losing side and looked kinda surprised. Did not stay there to see what was the end. But again lesson to be learnt: even if you are big and strong and your opponent small and weak it does not guarantee you success in a street fight since many other factors may be added later: the small guy may have a lot of friends who will join him, a small guy can suddenly use a stick or a knife and so on.These kind of factors change the balance of power rapidly. So many farangs don't understand this well and are punished for their stupidity.

Correct and being pissed is a big handicap when thing kick off, first question someone should ask themselves before things go south is "Am I pissed? then shut the fuck up and move on"

Strange how these stories almost always start with the part in bold above.

Whatever started it, it was clear the Britsh guy didn't want a fight. And of course this being Thailand your odds are never going to be even. They will always help each other, regardless who's fault it is. Most of the time.

Yes, if you keep your head down and are not a rowdy drunk you should I believe be OK. Touch wood I'm living proof of that. I get into some states around here. Even found myself sleeping on the pavements with Soi dogs one night...Lol But make no mistake there is a lot of bad Thai Men in this Town that will grab the chance to thump a farang.

I remember sitting in the Bee Bar Soi6 about 2009 it was real late, the Soi was dead. The girl said "Be very careful Thai men love to hurt and box farangs" well, I didn't really believe that then, I'm starting to change my mind because I live here and see and hear what's happening.

It doesn't take much to spark them at all. Just be careful and go Home quietely and peaceably and avoid confrontation.

I need to add this. That part of Soi Baukhao is very quiet late at night. I don't like walking around, down there at all. There's something that puts me off there always seems to be locals hanging around in large groups, drinking heavily. I always get a Bahtbus to pass that particular spot.

Jesus that sneak punch that knocked him to the curb was tough to watch. I know most people believe that the farang is usually not entirely innocent in these cases but as Wok N Rok points out you could easily be minding your own business and come across some shady lads who are strung out on drink/drugs and want to attack a farang for whatever reason

it happens, but the biggest danger at night in buakoaw when pissed is the traffic.

narrow, no sidewalks/pavements and plenty of stuff flying past.

i walk it day times most times unless it's real hot but night almost never unless it's a short distance

the punch that knocked him to the curb, that guy turned up on a scooter.

white scooter.

Dam that second guy came outta nowhere, not a chance.

From my, not that big, experience- the most important part when interacting with thai men is to show some basic respect. Sometimes I park my car near 7/11 or something like that and I see some thai taxi driver is looking at me not good. When I get out of car I usually tell him "5 minutes, just shopping" and you should see how quick the guy's face changes and he even smiles nodding ok, ok. That happened to me many times and I never had any real problem or confrontation.
