12 months in the life of the south pattaya canal

Captain Dave

Thanks a lot for the pics, very interesting.

I was aware it was there, and assumed it was what in Singapore they would call a monsoon ditch,

however you say it no longer drains out to sea.

I wasn't aware of the work being carried out.

Now all the council need to do is lengthen it, via a massive system of locks, up to the Big Buddah!

The flooding in that area was epic today. Hope that canal serves it purpose in the future.

Thanks for the photo updates. "Terabithia", never heard that name before. Google was my friend though.

Bridge to Terabithia is a work of children's literature about two lonely children who create a magical forest kingdom.

If I may ask, how did that book get on your reading this?

it is also a movie, which i think i endured on an in-flight ent system on a flight over.

i have a habit of sometimes inserting movie references into some of my posts for fun. most times they either go unnoticed or ignored.

i'm glad this time 1 got a reaction :08:

EDIT .........post 5 of mine in this thread includes a movie title of a WW2 event................operation market garden, and one went quietly by till now !!!

I live near the Land Office and the area was prone to flooding up to a year or two ago.

I imagine that it was embarrassing for the Land Office to be cut off like an an island at times.

This year I evacuated Pattaya for Songkran and given all the reports of heavy rain around the time of the above pic, I was a little concerned what I might come back to.

Nothing appears to have happened here thankfully and I notice also that the sandbags around the shops and offices opposite the Land Office aren't there now.

I'm wondering whether the Land Office's embarrassment and the clearance of the canal are connected perhaps?

i don't know where the land office is

ok i know where the lion pub is.

i think it's too far away for that small canal to have any effect.

wait for some proper rain and stick on some wellington boots and have a look !
