My gal bought me a few cd s of thai music. She showed me on the cover that they were not copy's, bootlegs. They played in Thailand in my condo, but won't play here in Canada.

What's the issue?

Thanks

Simple solution ... go back to Thailand ...

Yes, this is probable because they are encoded to only play in the geographic 'zone' that contains Thailand. That doesn't include Canada.

When it worked in Thailand was it just music only or was it music + video?

CD-Rs can not be played on all CD players and DVDs from Asia can not be played on all DVD players in North America (NTSC vs PAL).

You need to find a disc player capable of playing all formats......or like Jerry said, go back to Thailand...555

Good luck either way.

most likely your cd player doesn't play cdrs, have you tried playing another cdr on the same player?

As far as I know, music cds are not region encoded and thus do not need a region free cdr player.  But some cd players will not play any cdrs or just certain brands of cdrs.

I would try playing it on your comp or laptop and see if that works, then rip it using a free ripper and burning a new cdr from it...

region encoding...  rip the CD and reburn them usually does the trick...

The OP stated that they were not copies so I doubt that they would be CD-R disks

CDs don't have region encoding , only DVDs .

I believe that most players can play both. It is probably to have a common system to make production easier.

I have been told it has a region code, this is to protect copyrights.pricing, distribution, etc my player has a region code as well, they both must match in order to play.

It is a legit cd, not pirate, it was bought at a music store so i wouldn't have trouble returning thru customs.

This sucks shit, last cd I will buy in Thailand!

And to add salt to the wound, it won't play in my Honda car. Or anything CD player.

But it plays in a Toyota Camry and a ford truck, so I guess it's not too bad

there is NO such thing as region coding for CD-audio, whoever told you that knows fuck all.

most likely a very poor quality silver and some CD players dont take too kindly to the quality of disc. most asian discs when held up to light can look almost see through.

stick it in a PC and rip it to the drive and re-burn on a Canadian brought CD (TDK, Verbatim) a good quality disc will work in all... and any PC will read it straight away
