New taxi system at Swampy. How much now to Pattaya?

Just arrived back in LOS and have found a different system for getting a taxi at the airport. Seems much more efficient.

But I do not know what the current rate is to get to Pattaya? Can anyone tell me what I should pay a green and yellow meter cab for the ride?

And does the price include or exclude tolls?

I paid the same as before, 1500 baht. Expressway (60 baht) was included.

More efficient ???

You must be smoking crack ... I find it the most frustrating f$&king thing I have ever encountered.

Takes 2-3 x longer to get in a cab in my experience.

Well, at risk of being told I sound like a broken record, pre- book your taxi before you arrive here.

Pre book a Pattaya based service, where the driver knows most roads and hotels in Pattaya, and, because pre - booked, they have the time to find it before you arrive if they don't know.

No need to deal with frustrating systems when you arrive all jetlagged and half sleepy.

Prebook taxi agents like MrT, a bit cheaper, but drivers are the luck of the draw, or prebook services endorsed by members of this board, such as the women drivers, Tann's Taxi, Meouw, or Nam's Taxi - Lady Driver. (Email [email protected]), my own preference

I think all are cheaper then the 1500 bt quoted here

Brutox's post on this same Travel and Transportation thread will give you all the details on hiw to contact them

Sorry to jump in here but... I've always been told there's always a queue of taxis waiting outside the airport, is this not true?

The Powers That Be instituted a computerized taxi service scheme at Suvarnabhumi as part of the reforms after taking power, ostensibly to break the power of the taxi mafia (and make it safer/prices less extortionate for tourists).

time for someone to chime in and tell you to go upstairs and grab a cab that just dropped someone off...

first of all the cabs coming to the airport are great for Bangkok bound people, but many of them won't know where your hotel is in Pattaya...  secondly you're not supposed to be grabbing the cabs up there, and it is not that simple if you are new to Thailand and have luggage etc.

much better to pre book a car/driver that comes from Pattaya to get you.

especially if you have luggage...

I shall continue to go up to departures and ask one that's dropping off for a price to Pattaya, sometimes the first I ask doesn't take the $%&* and I go or move on to the next.

Well that's what I've been doing for the last few years, have to say it is pot luck with what sort of driver you get and have had a couple of scary ones along the way.

I read something on here a few days ago that there are now turnstyles that prevent one from going to the departure level from inside the terminal?

Yes prebook a car from Pattaya. It will be 1000 baht, including tolls, and the driver will be waiting for you with your name on a sign.

there are one way turnstiles out on the outer island where taxis drop you, they are simple enough to navigate around... but for me it is simply not worth the hassle, with luggage and all...  someone who knows their way around and only has a carryon can do this, but someone like me with a cart full of bags and such?  not worth the hassle.

and again, you never know if one of these metered taxi guys knows where to take you in Pattaya... can be problematic.

simple and cheaper to pre book, and I have a nice list of contacts for this purpose.

I've twice got the taxi from BKK to Pattaya, 1500bt each time, no queue, straight into the taxi. Both times the driver had no problem at all getting to Soi Buckao, from where I could direct him.

I don't pre-book taxi's, because what happens if your flight is delayed ?.  Do the taxi drivers check the flight arrivals board ?, & will they just wait until your flight arrives  ?, or if you arrive 3-4 hours late, will there be nobody waiting for you  ?.

I don't have a mobile phone

Lots of stories on ths board about prebooked drivers waiting even though a flight is two hours late. And even if he didn't wait you could still take a regular taxi if he isn't there. :GoldenSmile1:

I was an hour late the trip before last and no problem. I suppose if I was super late departing I could send an Email or call on Skype and warn the driver's company. But the latest I've been is about two hours and the driver was still waiting.

Used Meow 4 days ago - 1000 baht. Flight was 11 hours late - no problem, great communication nice clean air conditioned car

ya, why pay more for a metered taxi???  nothing positive about it...  the hired car/driver option is better all the way around.

the meter taxis also don't have seatbelts, at least none that I have ridden in have them.

I was told that law in Thailand doesn't require the use of seatbelts in the back seat. That maybe so, but i do feel safer having one.

I do think the limit the number of people allowed on one motorbike to five... :GoldenSmile1:

Both times I've got a taxi from BKK to Pattaya after flying half-way round the world, I've slept on the back seat during the trip. I hope I'm not the only one who does this :),
