Im considering Areca Lodge for my stay in July. Rate is 1828 baht for a Super Deluxe Room in the Evergreen building.

Does anyone have any experience with the Ace Club they are offering? Its a paid membership, that is supposed to give better rates and other stuff.

Good question.

I booked via Agoda and I joined the club at the same time.

I plan on paying for my membership at check-in and (hopefully) receiving 15% back from my already paid hotel bill.

I don't know if that is how it works though...

I have booked Super Deluxe Room as member of Ace Club for 1572THB...They are running a 15% off offer for ace club members  who stay 5 days or longer so I am well pleased. I think it cost 850thb to be a member and you don't have to pay till you check in for first time. You can join online here

So yes I think it is well worth it to join.

As far as I know you have to book directly with the hotel to avail of the Ace Club benefit.  In effect they are giving you most of the commission that they have to pay to an agency like Agoda, so if you book with Agoda they are not able to give you the discount as they have already had to pay commission to Agoda.

With Ace Club membership you do get a better rate than the published one, it is usually between 100THB and 200THB off the daily published rate.  I have just checked and in relation to July, the Ace Club rate showing for a stay longer than 5 days which attracts the 15% special low season discount is 1,572THB a night for the Super Deluxe room as opposed to the rate of 1,828THB quoted above.  In order to get this rate I believe you have to join the club before booking the hotel, I did this last year and paid the fee at the same time I paid the balance of room charge on arrival.

Thanks for the info everyone. Yes, you have to book directly with the hotel to get the Ace Club rates. Seems like this is a better deal than through Agoda etc.

I'll apply for the Ace Club before i order the room, hopefully it works out.

You are welcome. When you register you get a username and password to access the members area. Once there there is a tab called " Member Reservation" which when you click on gives you access to the discounted rates.

Hope all goes well.

I have stayed at Areca many times in the past and admit I never took advantage of ace club always booked through www.booking.com, glad to see the rates have leveled off, it was a great place to stay but now have found a guest house just a short distance away, my lifestyle in Pattaya was not lending itself to using the gym's,  pool's etc and now I am saving between 600-1200 a day depending on season in a new. very comfortable, well run establishment.

Agoda & hotel.com rarely offer batter rates than dealing directly with the hotel after they include their fees. And agoda's "deal" of accruing points is a joke. hotel.com is at least stay 10,get 1 free. Another downside is not accruing points in a membership program, such as Hilton,Hyatt ect. This doesn't generally apply to Pattaya though.

at the very least you need a beer."

i too used to stay at Areca, great place but like geezerrb, I too have moved to more economical accomadations.

Saving well over 1000 baht per night, that's big coin over a long holiday.

I can honestly say that there are many accomadations, guesthouses nearby that rival the Areca for half price.

Boomerang, china garden, jockeys, Irish rose, honey pot, Irish rovers new guesthouse and apartments.

And hundreds more.

I just got back a few days ago and stayed at Areca Lodge for 9 days and Sweethearts Guesthouse for 7 days and Robins Nest Guesthouse for 3 nights.

I think the Ace Club is definitely worth it as you will recover the 850 baht membership cost in reduced room rate . In my case I stayed in a Super Deluxe Room in Evergreen wing. Normal price was 2100  baht a night. With Ace Club reduced to 1800 a night so a saving of 2700 baht on room rates. Allow for the cost of the Ace Club membership and I'm 1950 baht better off. Also they give you a free chicken, fries, salad, glass of wine meal - worth maybe 200 baht for free. Also 15% on any food and some drinks ordered around hotel or pool - so altogether a good deal.

On the question of better value accommodation - sure guest houses are cheaper (Sweethearts 700 baht a night, Robins Nest 900 baht and both are decent, clean places) but you have to pay for a lot of extras which Areca has in the price eg

Breakfast - Areca has a brilliant buffet all you can eat breakfast and its good quality. In guest house you go outside and pay extra for this. I know you can get a 99 baht breakfast in some places but that is not comparing like with like. A fair comparison of Areca's breakfast is Casa Pascal which is 225 baht.

Gym - I like using the fitness rooms at Areca - when I was at the guest houses I used a gym on Third Road, again another 100 baht a day and an annoying walk from guest house.

Pool - used it everyday at Areca - again you need to an hotel extra if you are at a guesthouse.

So the maybe 900 to 1000 baht saving of guest house versus good hotel really gets reduced if you take these other facilities into account.

Great input, as you say one have to discount those alternative expenses too.

I'm thinking about going either Areca or See me Spring. Both have membership cards...

I have never received any mail.  The only emails I have received have been confirmations of bookings, so you should be able to continue to stay anonymous!

Don't give them your real address if you're worried about it.
