Have a lingering cough and not feeling well?

I have not been feeling well the last couple of months and have been suffering with a mucous producing cough, bronchitis, recurring sinus infections and a runny nose discharging yellow and green mucous.  Despite numerous visits to the doctor, nothing was found and I was given a number of different medicines and inhalers to treat the symptoms with very limited success.

Although I had the unit cleaned about four months ago, I decided to have my AC unit completely cleaned again including the partial disassembly of the unit itself to make sure it was completely clean.  Anyway, guess what mold was found everywhere, even the water in the pan was orange.  Whenever you have symptoms like I describe above it is more than likely mold in the AC.  When the unit is cleaned, make sure they pull the drip pan and clean the pan and coil on the inside unit using a power washer.  I stated feeling better the same day I had mine cleaned and am almost back to normal now.  I am going around with the owner to either replace the unit, which is quite old, or have the unit cleaned monthly or I am moving.

The dreaded Pattaya cough is more than likely the result of mold and many people including doctors seem to be unaware of the health issues associated with it.

Aircon takes the moisture from the room... try a small container of water placed on top of the wardrobe and the air will take the moisture from here rather than your throat :GoldenSmile1:

What often happens is an A/C unit maybe used for a while and collects an amount of dust in the filters etc, then it may not be used for a while and the dust attracts humidity from the air which breeds mold spores, you then turn it on again at some point and the spores are released into the room.

This can be common if the filters are not cleaned, its easy to do your self with the modern units, lift open the front of the A/C slide out the plastic filters and hose down with the bum washer in the loo, if its not possible and you suspect it has not been done for a while ask the hotel reception to do it.

In the case of the A/C unit is my condo, the issue was not dirty filters (I cleaned them regularly) or the unit "pulling moisture from my throat".  The issue is a defect in the design and manufacture of the unit that allowed condensate water to collect in the unit's drain pan and not drain completely.  This allowed mold to grow, which made me sick.  My neighbor was having the same symptoms as well as red and watery eyes and recurring eye infections, which could not be explained by the eye doctor he saw.  Once he saw the pictures of the inside of my A/C unit he moved.

  • 2 months later...

My landlord put in a new AC unit and all of my sinus, bronchitis and coughing stopped immediately.

I was staying for almost a year at a guesthouse. Also had a lot of issues with nose and throat all the time. Owner insisted that it could not be from the aircon as as he has it cleaned twice a year. Lol.

After complaining about this for some time he finally had it cleaned again. I watched the guy cleaning it and all he did was wash the filter. Already done that a few times myself.

Using a flashlight I showed him the loads of dirt inside. Took him 2 days and a flooding of the room (pipes where also not flowing freely) before it was ar last to my approval.

A few days later my issues where gone. Owner would still argue that this was just coincidence. Yeah sure.

I barely ever use my aircon - AC is for pussies.

My room obtains extra moisture from the drip-container at the rear of my fridge. I defrost regularly (it only takes a few minutes) and never empty the drip container at the back.

Winner winner chicken dinner.

Scent from my anus using crapatalk
