Keyboard problem

I have a Desktop with two Hardrives; one with XP which i am using now and another one where a friend recently installed Windows 7. We have been loading up My Pictures, Documents etc and some software.

 

Today on the second drive i went to install a short cut to Outlook Hotmail. and when i tried to  login and enter XXX@ hotmail.com I got XXX"hotmail.com.

 

Tried several times and at @@@@@@  I got """"""""""". I restarted computer reconnected the Keyboard USB and no difference.

 

Obviously the Keyboard is OK at XP , Has anyone any ideas how to fix this; my friend is in BKK just now.

 

This is just another reason why i much prefer XP where  my old graphic software works fine.

Control Panel -> Region and Language -> Change Keyboard

I will try that tomorrow but concerned i might fuck up my keyboard in XP which the more i see of Win 7 the longer i want to stick with XP. although i had problems  (virus??) and had to format  so why i wanted to learn to use Win 7 and I would use it as a back-up if XP had problems again.

 

You reminded me that in some keyboards the @ is somewhere  near the L  or ;

 

I tried quite a few symbols in that area including "  but @ did not come up.

I used a keyboard in Greece, maybe American, @ was number 2 key but with shift

Thanks for  the replies.

 

Several things have been tried and the problem is now solved. The likely solution was switching to a English (US) keyboard from English (UK)..

your keyboard is set to USA by the sounds of it. SO go to Start -> Control Panel -> Clock Language And region ->   under format Tab change format to the country you want , again under location Tab  gain under Keyboards and languages

 

Also click change Keyboard and add the country you desire there
