Best steak I have had in Thailand - Udon Thani

Visited the Chern Chim Steakhouse in Udon Thani yesterday. Rare for me to find steaks that I love in Thailand. Manager here imports aussie meat and new zealand lamb. I ordered a 300g rump steak 450 baht and my mate the mixed grill.

Cannot recommend this place highly enough, was simply amazing. Cooked perfectly and highest quality aussie export meat.

If you are in Udon, give this place a try.

That looks fantastic but No Gravy 5555

lol nah no gravy. I only get gravy when the steak isn't too good.

All that looks very good!  IMHO you cant beat rump steak!

Yeah I love it. Bought a kilo to bring home with me. Cost 680 baht.

Have to preface this with the disclaimer that I don't personally eat beef, or pork, or chicken, or other similar critters. However, my wife, and many friends are omnivores.

There's an open air Thai place near our house called "Im Sauk" or something like that. We call it "the French place", because it's looked after by a French guy and his Thai wife. Mostly it's tasty, and inexpensive Thai food, but they also do Bangers and Mash, and Steak (with salad, bread, and potato.) Second hand reports are that the steak is really good, and it's 250 baht.

To get there, from the "T" intersection on the Ring Road, between Tesco and Big C, head towards the south intersection of Hwy 2 and Ring Road (toward Thai Watsadu - away from the airport). A kilometer or two down the road, on the left hand side, you'll see the construction lot for when they were building / completing the additional lanes on Ring Road. Take the left hand turn into Ponbok Village and the restaurant is right there on the corner (left side). The kitchen is enclosed but there are no walls around the dining area.

Friday nights have been a 300 Baht buffet attended mostly by French guys and partners. It seems to be a very popular night, so I usually pick one of the other six nights to go there.

The steak there is very good and cooked any way that you ask for it.  Also a side salad with dressing and a warm bread roll are included.  To look at the place you would never imagine that they would produce such first class food but they do.

Have been to this place and it is really pretty good value for money. Steak is ok without being great but it is good value. Didn't know they did a buffet night which also sounds execellent value.

Hope OP doesn't mind me posting this here, but just came across this:

Expect most Udon BM's are aware of it, but in case they aren't, somewhere to get different beers!

They have an amazing variety of beers there. And their food is top class as well. I believe they also have Cadburys chocolate imported from the UK as well.

The Fosters on tap must be for the British tourist!  :Think1:

Don't give a XXXX why they have it. I certainly won't be ordering any!

No problem. I don't know Udon very well but it has grown so quickly in recent years it's difficult to keep up with all the new places.

A friend has lived there for about 15 years ( though he works outside TLOS) and he hadn't heard of either the Steak or Beer place.

Though he'll be visiting both in April now!

  • 4 years later...

Sadly the place near us that also had good steaks is closed and the building torn down. I was sad when I heard they were moving, but even more so when I learned they were closing entirely instead. No more quick trips to Im Souk for a meal.
