I am not diabetic myself but I think you need to Google for the "Glycemic Index". You are looking for foods that have a low GI, which means the sugars in them are released more slowly into the blood stream. Obviously you will have to talk to your Dr. about your specific requirements.

Different foods affect individuals differently .... in many cases it's down to trial and error and portion sizes.  Obviously in LOS, their rice (khao hom mali) is to be avoided like the plague.  The biggest problem I find is that the Thais seem to chuck a couple of spoonfuls of sugar into just about everything.

FWIW, there is a pretty decent book that came out recently by a guy called Dr David Cavan (a UK doctor) ... worth a look as he cuts through all the crap and conflicting info.

I've been caring for my father for several years and diabetes is one of his conditions.

There's no simple answer in terms of fruit & veg, other than moderation. Moderation in terms of carb intake as well. Obviously, not a good idea to eat several oranges a day etc :-)

Obviously, avoid biscuits, sweets, chocolate as much as possible. Also, sugary soft drinks. One think I discovered that wasn't obvious to me is that Diet Coke needs to be avoided. There may be no sugar, but the other ingredients really buggered up my father's blood sugar.

Saxagliptin as a medication worked quite well for us, and we're now at the stage where he's actually off insulin. He really hated the injections.

Good luck.

Look them up on the Glycemic Index I mentioned earlier, at a guess I'd say that they're quite high because of their texture and sugar content. I expect the anti-stroke properties are due to the Potassium content and the fibre. Potassium helps to balance the electrolyte and fluid levels in your body which is important for heart health but it is very easy to get the potassium from other sources not so dense in sugar. Try coconut water as it has more potassium than bananas and a bit less sugar.

A small banana a day will be fine. It's all about balance. Obviously, the larger the banana the higher the carbs :-)

Also, from memory, the riper the banana the more quickly the sugars enter your system?? It takes your system longer to break down the carbs in greenish bananas into sugars.

Seriously, I buy almonds by the kilo at my local market ... lots of info online of how they affect blood sugar levels.

Try to google guava and diabetes, they sell cut out guava all over, just skip the chili sugar, that normally goes with it, and watch the white stones, that are left on the fruit. Heard from several people ( including Thais) that it's a good thing to eat when having diabetes

Just my 2 cents
