Calling from Thailand to Australia landlines/mobiles

TNTucker

Recommended Posts

I have a business in Australia so I often need to contact clients on their Australian landlines or mobiles.  I will soon start working from Thailand 6 months every year so I need a good mobile solution with data and cheap international calling rates.

Looking for any advice on the best approaches people use.

I searched all topics in this forum and could only find advice for short term holiday makers who wanted mainly cheap data.

Thanks.

Most carriers have cheap rates if you use certain codes. For example if you use Dtac it is 6 Baht a minute to landlines and 7 Baht a minute to mobiles (link).

If you have a reasonable internet service where you are staying Skype has unlimited time to Australian landlines for about $13 a month.

When I use my 1-2-call sim I always dial 009 before the 61 etc for the cheapest call rate.

Get good internet At work work place and use paid Google or Skype, call rates very cheap.

Most of my family and many friends have iPhones so I use FaceTime video and audio a lot.

Are going to keep your existing Australian number?

Yes will retain a 1800 number and number mobile in Australia.

Appreciate feedback guys.

DTAC rates look pretty good.

Skype etc, I don't work from an office in Thailand so no high speed internet and WiFi unreliable.

Set yourself up with an Australian VOIP service and log in from here. Expect monthly charges to be $A13-15 giving you unlimited local & mobile calls in Oz. You need an Oz address to assign to the service. Obviously do not tell the provider what you are doing. Does not help you with a data service but when you have one on your mobile you can use the service from it.

Do not ask me how to do it. Google it. There's shitloads of them.

There is a very good thread on it somewhere I will try and dig it up!  I have done it and it works but i had to pay a diversion fee with my carrier (check yours) but is still  a lot cheaper than your end cost for someone calling you with global roaming.

Rent a land line number from Skype with your state area code, then divert your Australian numbers to the Skype number, then divert the Skype number to your Thai number!

When I go to Thaïland, I need to call my customers often so I use Skype.

For 2.99$CA a month, I can do unlimited calls to any landline or mobile phone anywhere in North America.

No thaï phone plan can beat that ... :Think1:

Yes but if you don't have an internet connection it will not work.

Also in Australia (like most places outside of North America) the person making the call to a mobile number must pay the total cost. As a result of this it is not included in Skype's unlimited plans.

That's fine but the OP is interested in information about calling Australia and the information that you gave about pricing is not relevant.

Don't know Australia but using 004 from DTAC allows me to call the States 4 B per minute (from a Thai sim). Assume also have a great deal for Australia.
