The drop in oil prices might reduce flight prices a bit more by then

Quite possible Redfred but still will not change the tax we pay on the flights. The flight cost broken down was flight £244.33 and TAX was £385.11.

The other reason for booking was that the flight times were perfect for me and in my experience Christmas flights only get more expensive.

Tax AND FEES (incl fuel surcharge) may be 385.11.  The actual tax isn't anywhere near that.

A good indication is:

    • Taxes, Fees & Charges
    • Air Passenger Duty United Kingdom
      GBP 71.00
    • Passenger Service Charge United Kingdom
      GBP 30.11
    • Airport Passenger Security & Noise Charge Switzerland
      GBP 24.40
    • Passenger Service Charge Thailand
      GBP 13.60

A number of airlines are now showing January flights, as is Skyscanner.

However, a lot of agents (in the UK) are only booking up to around 7th December. To get the full range of offers/options for January we'll need to wait another 4 weeks or so.

If you know your dates, who you want to fly with, and see a price you're happy with, no reason not to book of course.

It looks as if prices are coming down, but who knows what offers will be around for next Christmas! Don't often get good late offers.

I know who I want to fly with, and have a price in mind, but don't mind waiting another 6 months before booking if necessary.

Agree with you on waiting sometimes as you do get a window where the flights for Christmas are cheaper and this has happened around June time.

In the last 16 years I have been in LOS for Xmas and New Year every year and the prices I have paid have always been around £550 to £650 Mark. If you look at inflation and yearly wage increases along with the taxes that are now on flights these days we are getting a very good deal indeed.

Nothing like planning ahead! I hope to get 2 trips in before next christmas, first one is booked for March, 2nd planned for September :)  THEN I'll start thinking about christmas!

Next trip Aug 31-Sep13, theme: try more freelancers, get dirty! Note to self: TAKE MORE PHOTOS!!!

Sad I know!

After this June/July, I'll probably only be able to go once a year (at Christmas) for a few years so don't have much to look forward to :-)

I may not book the flight until after my Summer trip, and certainly won't book accommodation until after. Still cheers me up looking at flights though.

If I suddenly see EVA Business very cheap, then I'll go ahead!!!

Direct flights for me..

Was always the same for me too but on my last couple of Christmas/New year trips the price for a direct flight was around £950 for economy and a short layover was £300 cheaper so I booked the cheaper one.

Though a lot of agents are only booking into the middle of December, so a few weeks before you can compare full range of fares, there's enough out there to see the 'very high peak dates' for Christmas/New Year.

Most of you will know this anyway, but from the UK fares go up significantly on December 11th with most airlines. For return flights, they don't drop slightly until January 4th.

I was looking at Business class flights and there was about £500 difference from 11th December on and returning before 4th Jan.

I usually go for just under 3 weeks, but may go for longer as it will be cheaper to pay a condo/hotel for an extra week.

If you don't want to be there for Christmas, there may be some slightly cheaper flights departing Christmas/Boxing days.

I'm in no rush to book but will keep checking for 'good' fares just in case there are early offers.

Agree Davidge good post. What I would also add is to set up daily price email alerts on both Sky Scanner and Kayak if you know your dates.

Thanks.

I'll see about setting up fare alerts on Skyscanner and Kayak.

I have one that I set up on Tripadvisor when I was looking for June flights but, despite searching for Business to set up the alert, the alerts only tell me about Economy fares.

I don't know if Skyscanner and Kayak will be the same?

Not really the Christmas flight is the hardest flight to get at the correct price. Also I hire a SUV and if I don't book that now it would cost me an extra £500. Also where I stay, which has a swimming pool and a monthly rent of 15,000 Baht per month, gets sold out very quickly even though they have 70 rooms as their are many residents who stay 6 months or more at a time.

Update:

One or two airlines are pushing the 10th December date a little. Eg BA - not that I'd fly with them if I could help it.

Hoping EVA fares come down a little at some point.

A Dec. 2015 flight booked now is beyond my comprehension :SoWhat1:  Its not like its any great deal you have.

Been doing it direct for many years Christmas / New years trips..Never paid those (£950) silly prices.

Around June if you check skyscanner you will see why..and kick yourself.

Sorry. I'm talking about Business Class. Much as I'd like to save the money, just can't travel in Economy any more.

Edit: if I did fly Economy, I may be tempted by the £503 for Royal Jordanian 13/12-3/1

I never said you did..did i ? What you were insinuating was those prices were the best you could find..which is incorrect..given i paid less.

They are the best prices today for a direct flight. If you look back in the thread I said in June their is usually a small window where the flight price for Xmas is at its cheapest and is then worth booking.

I too have always paid between £550 to £650 every year for my Christmas/New Year flight since the year 2000 and 90% of them have been direct with either Thai or Eva Air.
