Breakdown service?

rankore

Recommended Posts

After owning a "POS" bike here in the UK that breaks down every 5 minutes I have had to reply on my breakdown service quite a lot. Just wondering about the services there? I wouldn't want to be stuck in the middle of nowhere if I decide to take a blast up the mountains.

Any recommendations? Costs? Coverage? Ease of use?

What do people do then? Breakdown in Thailand is a bit different to breaking down on the a1....

Yes there are breakdown services in Thailand, a company contracted to Honda takes care of all Honda breakdowns during the 3 year car warranty, and can be extended after thst expires for an annual fee. Fird has a similar deal.

My insurance also offers free breakdown service for the first year which can be extended, just not sure what name.

I hardly needed it, the only times my Jazz stopped was due to poor battery, six years, 180.000 km by now...

That time, they did turn up.

Maybe somebody else can give the name of such services...

Depends on what you are renting (I ssume you are renting a motorbike or motorcycle).  If you have a problem, just call the rental people and they will probably send someone to work things out.

Personally, I would be much more concerned about safety and not being in an accident than something going wrong with the machine.  With about 10,000 kms in 14 months and renting a bunch of other bikes, the only mechanical problem I have had is running out of gas in Pattaya.

Stay safe and have a blast

Rented from a larger bike rental company in Chiang Mai recently. Their rental agreement stated they only guarantee the engine. According to several postings on other forums, you're on your own if you get a flat tire or other minor problem. If you want Western service, be prepared to pay Western prices.

I wouldn't mind paying western prices if I had a phone number of a breakdown service. This has got to be a good business opportunity for someone! lol

There is a guy in Bangkok that offers a 24 hour bike recovery service aimed at big bike owners.  I have never used him nor know anyone that has needed to either but his number is in my phone just in case.. PM me if you want contact details.
