Was this before they opened the new terminal late last year?

1 week before the new lounge opened it seems.

New terminal at Abu Dhabi airport is great, including the business class lounge. Had the pleasure of travelling Etihad business class in March this year and visiting the lounge. Have a booking now in November Brussels-Phuket , Bangkok-Brussels  both going via Abu Dhabi , for €1800 Business class . Looking forward to it

Not an offer but a mini review of if Qatar's business class. Booked in September for December departure. 3200 Euro for Dublin to Bangkok via Doha. Included lounge access, 40 kg checked and priority security etc.

I have travelled with quite a few business carriers and Qatar blows them away. Service, food, drinks, lounges and QSuite! The first leg was on a 787 Dreamliner with herring bone config. No complaints, everything was top notch. Then the highlight, QSuite from Doha to Bangkok. It is amazing how much difference that sliding door makes, also it was my first time sitting in the rear facing seat and honestly it made no difference.

Cabin crew were great efficient, professional and just well trained.. Lounge in Bangkok is lovely, lots of seating, plenty of food and drink. Staff proactively refill whatever you are drinking, nice touch. Lounge in Doha is huge with a separate eating area. Lots of seating even at peak times. Doha was easy to navigate. For those in Ireland the lounge is the old Etihad lounge, now renamed to the East lounge. A decent hot breakfast buffet, not too busy for the afternoon departure.

Overall I would give it 9/10. Docking 1 point for the entertainment system which did not have a great movie selection, the bus boarding to get to the plane in Doha was a bit chaotic, reminded me of the last time I flew with Ryanair and the lady who checked me in did not know what lounge access I had  in Doha.

Considering Turkish was a similar price for an inferior product there is no comparison. If Qatar's price is anyway near your budget then book with Qatar. The Bangkok departure is also at 2am so I had to book a hotel for 2 nights but checkout around 22:00 on departure night. Given the time of year this was a bit pricy but well worth it as I was exhausted. I downloaded the Qatar app but air miles have not been automatically credited yet but my boarding passes and luggage tags were added automatically.

Very enjoyable experience, for those who enjoy extra privacy the QSuite business class us divided into two sections, the 2nd section only has two rows and for my return trip only had 3 passengers so extra roomy. But economy board through this section 555. Hey, just slide the door over as one of the cabin crew did for me.

I'm surprised you haven't gotten your air miles, they usually credit them as soon as you check in so you can spend them in duty free, they never miss a trick 😊.

Qatar is the best. But just a note that BKK-DOH is a risky leg for the notorious equipment swap. Qatar has comparably few Q configured planes. Just something to be aware of so you’re not disappointed. I recommend taking a center seat so you will have dedicated aisle access regardless. Food at BKK lounge is really nice.

Yes I heard the phrase, getting Qatared. There is a 3 flights to Bangkok from Doha very close together, two of them were not Qsuite but I got lucky on both legs.

Last night I pulled the trigger on Gulf Air, LHR/BKK return in late Oct/Nov £2035 via booking.com.

Available on Gulf Air for £2162 on a very few dates, I used there variable dates graph to find these flights and availability the punched the dates into Momondo and Skyscanner to find agent discounted prices. My particular flight times could be had for about £150 less than I paid, but through an agency I have not dealt with previously. I stuck with Booking.com at that price and paid via Paypal credit.

Everything is confirmed with 2 x 3hr stopover either way, 40kg baggage + golf bag and full lounge access. Have an ATOL cert from Booking.com and my booking is showing on the Gulf Air site via "manage my booking"

Full flat seats and full aisle access for all seats, just be careful about stopovers, 2 flights in and out of London, same with Bkk can lead to a hefty layover, so check the booking carefully.

2 travel companions bagged same deals on same dates, so 3 of us travelling together. Happy days.

Gulf are decent - great cheese buffet in the lounge which for me created massive farts on the next leg which was fun :D

Agreed, there are some dodgy ones out there apparently. Some horror stories on reviews

I thought about Gulf for my trip in March with a hefty layover, the idea was to get to an airside hotel room. Get as much rest in as possible before hitting Pattaya. By the time I was ready to pull the trigger (lots of hesitating), the price had gone up. Ended up booking Etihad for £2200 with decent timings (not having to get up and an ungodly hour), shorter layovers. Still may look at Gulf in the future.

Hainan is now doing BKK-PEK-DUB.
The service and food onboard were really explemary on all legs.
Reasonable pricing and DUB has great connectivity to USA (CBP in Dublin, so no two hour wait at other end) and Ryanair goes everywhere.

Ground handling was beyond rubbish but there was alot going on in the airports over New Year.

Booked with Etihad today for an April trip. Amsterdam>Abu Dhabi>BKK and return was 2.600 Euro's. Not a great but also not a terrible price. Standard price of 1.500 Euro's for flying in but discounted prices at 1.100 on the way back home.

Random 2 weeks in April selected - 9th to 23rd. Prices look good on SkyScanner.net

Ok, interesting... It's GBP though and at 1,20 to the Euro today it also comes at 2.515 Euro's but still, it is a little cheaper. I checked for my dates (2nd-25th) on Skyscanner and it came at 2.560 EUR with Booking.com. Not a huge difference to the 2.600 I paid directly on the airlines website.

Good price, I also booked with booking.com more reliable than some of the others that come up

Booked with Thai airways today for Feb 3-28. Direct flight FRA-BKK-FRA for €3470. Never been a fan of layovers or stopovers, but I guess the price is as expected and a few hundred euros more than my last trip.

I went with Etihad November this year for about the same price, top airline and no complaints, lounge in ABU was good if a little busy when i was there.

I've just bought my MEL/BKK/MEL ticket for May/June

$3,274 AUD Business class with Malaysian airlines

I used to get this flight for about $400 less pre covid and that was with Singapore/Thai airlines

I think this is the exact same price I paid 12 months ago for my holiday in 2024

For the OZ BM who are thinking of travelling around this time, get in now, as this price will be gone in 48 hours

Two trips, last 23 Dec BKK-DOH and DOH-AGP, 2 legs for £1900 Qatar

13th Jan ZRH- MCT and MCT-BKK, 2 legs also BC for just shy over £1400 Oman Air

Visited the QPL In BKK, very nice, It was only me and another guy there due to the late morning departure. I don't know how many different cabins Qatar has but I don't think I got the Q Suite. Overall very enjoyable both trips, I had some issues in the last leg with Oman Air in one of the seats due to dirtyness, but the lady attendant offered me a change of cabin to the front which l accepted (luckily there was still one free cabin) and the service was very good as when I first flew back in 2017 with OA. I also chose a seat poorly there , in the very last row next to the premium tourist rows and by the aircraft entrance which I realised I'm definitely not a fan of (I think it was 15G)

Some pictures of this great experience attached, just like I did in 2017. I want to try Etihad or Emirates especially if available at the prices posted by some members here.

Very impressive. Never have flown on any Middle Eastern airline, but I keep hoping some day their itinerary will make more sense than my usual airline. Just left a few days ago, BKK-NRT, NRT-DFW. The flight to NRT was excellent (on JAL). Of course I show up in the lounge to have my chicken curry and rice at 6am, so basically didn’t not have an appetite for the meal on the 5.5 hour flight. Fortunately had time for the JAL First Class lounge in Narita, for some sushi and then a shower.

The flight on American to DFW was quite nice, with the Flagship seating. Huge space and large monitor, etc. Sorry for the American Airlines fans out there, but the service was not so good. Attitude is everything! I still fly on them, but not my first choiice.

Just an observation, over the past few years there are more and more kids in BC, mainly on the middle eastern airlines. Myself and the wife have had a few unpleasant flights recently due to kids being kids in BC.
