Real Authentic Thai Food?

Knight Life

Recommended Posts

I’m looking for a real authentic Thai food experience.  Somewhere off the beaten path.

I’ve been to Mum Aroi, which was very good. But I’m looking for something more adventures, a meal that would rank up there as a unique dining experience.

No I ain’t looking to eat any bugs, worms or grubs.  Just somewhere to take my TG for a special treat.

It's hard to find inauthentic Thai food in Thailand if you stick with small, non-touristy places.

There's a good Northern Thai kao gaeng place on Third Road closer to Central Road. Cheap and tasty. I'll add a google map link. It only serves from about 10 am to 2 pm (after that things start to run out).

Theres another good seafood place on the beach (tables on the beach)…at Naklua…forgot the name.

Price discussions are killing my mood and my illusions.

They may not be special but the made to order food shops -- aharn dtam sang-- will make Thai food for you the same way they make it for themselves. For more involved dishes like Tom Yam or steamed fish i would recommend the Diana Dragon on soi Diana just before soi Buahkhao. Decent place, good food and reasonably priced also close to the action.

PIC Kitchen is very nice (haven't been for years) otherwise Ban Ampur for seafood, Moomaroi is nice as is Cabbages and condoms although I find the food at Cabbages a bit faragified if that makes sense.

Not sure about authentic but Rimpa Lapin is nice also.

:)

Thai BBQ!  Not the sterile MK versions, this place is pretty cheap and rustic, the band kicks off at midnight.

2 tips from me....

Don't be afraid to try the streetfood, it costs nothing, if you don't like it buy something in the next stall.

If you like seafood, go to Naklua Market, do your shopping, pay the barbecue people some money ( i paid 50+30 for rice and sauce) and have a picnick in the park

I would like to believe its authentic, but I find the food from the Thai eatery on the intersection of soi Chiyaphoon with Third road pretty tasty, the name is in Thai so am not very sure what its called.

With a couple of other branches around town, corner of Pattayaland 1 and 2nd Road, and another on Pattaya Glang.

They are all called Flying Vegetable or Pak Boong Loy Faa in Thai.

And for what you get, I find them pretty poor value.
