A one star hotel theft

Recommended Posts

A friend of mine just told me he has had his laptop stolen from inside his bag at the above hotel. This happened yesterday while he was out probably during the day.

He told me he left the hotel about lunch time and got back at 11pm or so. The safes in the rooms aren't big enough to hold a laptop so it was in a jumper in his bag. The hotel staff on duty were kinda uninterested in the whole thing and the police were far more helpful.

I doubt he will get it back but he told me he said to them if it is returned he will not file charges. Just give it back.

So if you are staying there BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL.

No it's A-ONE STAR HOTEL. It's on Soi three.

Thanks for the heads up. Too many times when these complaints are posted the name of the hotel is never mentioned.

Tough shit…but this is careless of your pal…..hope he had all his data backed up on a drive elsewhere.

You don't have to sulk mate…did he at least bother to lock his bag? If not, how can he blame anyone else….the smart way to prevent theft is not to give the thief any opportunity.

I can't help feeling that the name of the establishment is dead give-away - "A 1-Star Hotel"?!

The lesson here is that when a guy complains his shit got stolen, the hotel doesn't always believe him…since some customers make shit up for insurance scams etc.

I was staying for a week in a 5 star hotel in manila many years ago. Went out for a ride the day after i checked in and got pick pocketed…lost all my holiday cash which i was carrying with me for security reasons…lol. But it was my fault…i was buzzed and had all the cash in a track suit bottom with lose pockets…AND was travelling on a jeepney.

Anyway went back to the hotel and told them Id lost all my money….they smiled sympathetically and said please wait sir we'll inform the police. Next, a very dour faced plainclothes detective arrives and starts questioning me and taking notes….initially i thought he was trying to help me nab the thieves…turns out he was investigating the hotels suspicions that I had faked the whole thing to avoid paying my bill.

Luckily I had paid for my entire stay upfront…which I pointed out to them. It was only here where they relaxed. They then allowed me to get a cash advance from them on my credit card which i still had in my safe upstairs.

But I was pissed that they thought I had made the story up….

Bad move threatening the knucklehead, face obsessed thais….better to say he will offer a 10,000 baht reward, no questions asked.

So what will stop them from doing it again and again if there's a 'reward' .

Though I'm against it I have passed on the reward thing. Thank you for your input.

I dont know....but it has a better chance of working than threatening to go to the cops.

Assuming they have cctv coverage, they could pretty much pinpoint the likely culprit (if either the police or hotel wanted to.......a big 'if').

You are correct they have it. I just spent most of the day with him trying to get back the laptop. The only suspect is denying the whole thing. She will not admit anything except "seeing" the laptop on the bed. This is despite it being in the suitcase and never taken out.

She firstly denied seeing it. Then changed her story after the police got involved. I can't believe the bare faced lies and I'm not the one it happened to.

Early night for me as fucking long day with CCTV footage and police interviews a plenty. And it's not even over yet. Back to see the cops tomorrow afternoon.

Ps. Chance of getting it back is now fuck all and buckleys imho. Even with a reward. That chick has sold it already for sure.

OP - Really sorry to hear about your plight. That's a real bummer.

First point regarding the hotel name, BM Daddee made an understandable assumption...glad that's cleared up  :WinkGrin1:

I think you have been very unlucky indeed...I am assuming it is the maid who is the suspect. I have been to Patts 20+ times and although wallet, passport etc are locked in the safe, I just leave my laptop out in plain-view. In all that time I have never had anything nicked - indeed I once had 600GBP returned to me that I left in my room after checking-out.

way I figure is that a maid has to be very dumb/desperate to pull such a stunt...it doesn't take Sherlock to figure out who the "prime suspect" is. Chances are she will lose her job...and if she does get away with it, she can never pull a scam again.

Thanks for posting...always good to know where and when  thievery happens.

I have one to , but I can't normally see anything to secure it in a hotel room , so I lock it , then lock it in my luggage , so I guess it will deter any opportunist thief ...

If it floats, flies or fucks It's probably cheaper to rent ...

Yea I stay in Sandy Spring which has no in room safes …never had a thing nicked….keep passport, ticket, and transport money to airport in their reception safe.

Keep the iPad locked in suitcase and under hidden in clothes when Im out of the room….

Another tip: when leaving your hotel room for the night, leave a light on and hang the 'Do Not Disturb; sign outside…create the impression that someones home. Of course if they've seen you leave then can't be helped.
