Sombat Thamrongthanyawong, the chairman of the National Reform Council's political reform committee, insisted that direct election of the prime minister and Cabinet would tackle the issue of vote buying.

Well, in another 2-4 years, maybe. In concept, purely theoretically, he may be right - pragmatically, he's funny.

In my wife's village the night before any voting.  One party rep calls by each house and hands over some baht.  And the other party or parties do the same.

 

They vote for whoever hands over the most baht.

 

How more direct can you get.

 

Doesn't matter how BKK thinks it might do things...........
