Planning To travel with Jetstar for the first time

On my last five trips I have gone with Thai Airways from Melbourne to Bangkok. I liked that it was a direct flight, I left at 11-12 in the night and arrived in the morning in Bangkok and I found the food better than what I had on Qantas.

However I am looking to save money and Thai Airways no longer has the late night flight. Jetstar goes direct and has some very good prices.  I know I have to pay extra for my checked baggage and on board entertainment and you can choose to buy a meal or not. I am happy to bring my own small snacks and not have any meals on the plane, I did it on my last trip back and my stomach felt better anyway. As long as I have water so I don't get dehydrated. I plan to pay for checked baggage which I think is $31 departing 15kg and $35 20kg for return and on board entertainment which from what I heard is about $20. The whole cost will be about $630.

Anyone here flown with Jetstar and found them to be ok.

Do I have to pay for drinking water? :GoldenSmile1:

I've flown Jetstar probably the last 15 trips now...same reason as yourself, Thai Airways is far too expensive these days...usually double the price!

Regarding food i'll always go to Subway (at Tulla) & buy a foot-long sub then eat it on the plane....as for drinks, you can buy with a credit card OR there's fresh water from a tap just outside the toilets...

IMO you pay for what you get....Jetstar's a budget airline so the service won't be as good as Qantas but the prices are unbelievable! As for prices i'm planning in going next March & every Friday they have the ''Friday Frenzy'' between 4pm-8pm...still waiting for cheap tickets, usually can get a return ticket for $520 (incl taxes/20kg both ways)

Hope that's helps you a little :Grin3:

Malaysian airlines has some good prices now as well. Not direct flight of course but they do have a midnight departure so you arrive early morning in Bangkok.

+1 for Jetstar. Goin in June $570 return 20kg and picked me own seat

I do believe now that the carry on baggage is only 7kg not 10

About 60 trips now.  Absolutely fine.  Don't believe all the crap some come up with

Qantas - service? an oxy moron that one.  And certainly not worth the extra cost....

Malaysian/Air Asia - stopovers are a pain in the arse - unless its a red hot price.  Been there done that.....

On the dreamyliner the front section of 30 or so economy seats is a good area. Pity JS don't yet make it a quiet area like Air Asia.

Water - if you hate paying for a bottle of it bring an empty and fill it up from the drinking fountains at the gate....

Never had a problem with JQ, although only flown with them on 3 occasions.

About the TG night flight. I have a flight booked that departs around midnight and gets there early morning (in March) and according to Google there was one today so maybe its a seasonal thing.

Anyway, have a good trip!!

It is not as bad as Air asia. The hosties are Thai so that is ok. The meals are not worth the price but taste ok. Keep checking your seat allocation because you can keep moving around if you want an empty seat next to you. Most budget travellers think there is some prestige to be first off the plane but I would rather sit at the back and have a spare seat next to me.

As much as I love all things Australian, I got to get me action of the asian persuasian.

Never had any drama's with jetstar. Service is good and you can purchase drinks with your credit card

Flew with them this year for the first time & no problems.

Direct flight is always going to be better, less to go wrong & it's only a nine hour flight.

If you can get to the airport with time to spare and have a full lunch before boarding you are pretty much right for the bulk of the flight.  I usually buy a muffin or sandwich or something like that if I get peckish but that is all. It is pretty much the same as other airlines but the cheap price and direct to Bangkok make it well and truly worth it.

Just got back and used Jet Star and it was fine. Will do it again

I booked my flight the base fare was $430 aus and with the extras such as baggage, picking my seat, booking fee and in flight entertainment  the total was $559 which I am pretty happy with as my last flight was about $960.

The Thai night flight is still a go, I know because I help send it off, its just that the odd flight is cancelled due to demand.

Bawdy by name, Bawdy by nature.

Jetstar is great, cheap and direct...money saved on this flight can be well spent mongering rather than on Thai airways or want as with the old chooks and fags they've got as hostesses

I flew jetstar last November. I had 2 flights cancel. This created a real problem for me. Is that normal with jetstar or was I just very unlucky.?

The service itself was fine. The dream liner was great. But I am reluctant to use them again because of the cancelations.

I travel with Jetstar a lot, basically because there wasn't a choice for many years ex Darwin.

Yes, you can take 7kg carry on.

It costs $5 to choose an ordinary seat, $15 I think for up front ones, maybe more for exit window seats. If you don't pick a seat they don't charge you.

They will charge you for bottled water but I have seen people get a glass of water for free. Most these days take an empty water bottle through security and then at the departure lounge fill it with water.

They don't seem to mind about  your own food, many people do it, I always bring sandwiches from home.

I can't stand jetstar economy , small seat , bad service

I always fly jetstar business class if you can afford the extra and it's on sale

Treat your self. U can get a return flight for around $1000. Aus

When BMs can fly from Southern states for 550, I can't see the point in spending another 450 for a bigger seat and a shitty meal. In the current economic climate that 450 would more than make up for the shite exchange rate.

I have found that I am not alone in not having shit loads of money for my holiday...and it has been agreed that everyone who works for a living is entitled to a holiday, so given the choice of $450 for extra leg room and a shite meal, or $450 worth of pussy and beer (12000 bhat), guess which one wins? Air travel is shite no matter how much you try to dress it up, it's about sacrifices for gains. My choice is always spending as little on something as possible, that way I can live the life of a coined-up twat with a modest income.

It's not a holiday if your cheap on everything . Ok if u like cattle class. Small seats, bad food, if you can't afford the extras . I wouldn't go .

What a load of complete and utter bollocks.

So for a bit of extra leg room and a reheated meal you would rather pay twice or maybe three times the price to travel from A to B?

By your way of thinking many people would never travel on a plane for a holiday. Why do budget airlines exist? I'll answer it for you, so people can travel overseas for a holiday. Your philosophy is that if people can't afford to pay top price for everything then they should just stay at home and wank or watch DVDs of exotic locations. What an arrogant attitude, and someone so arrogant should at least be able to differentiate between your and you're. It's "you're cheap on everything".

I fly jetstar ex perth sometimes, not by choice but because of connections from work. Any time i fly jetstar it costs minimum of 120 bucks above the fare price because I'm not a midget and need an exit row if I'm gonna get my legs in. Other than that, they aren't too badx I don't usually bother with entertainment because it's a late flight and I'll sleep anyway. They are ok but if I cam I'll fly direct with thai

she asked "do you lub me?" i replied "i lub fucking you!"
