Hi guys, i am on my way to Pattaya. Unfortunately, my flight from Paris to Abu Dhabi was delayed due to a technical problem on the plane (they had to carry out some vérifications). That delay caused that i arrived to late to board the Abu Dhabi-bkk leg.

Right now , etihad Has given us accommodation at Novotel with meals. I asked for some compensation as a had booked hotel for tonight, but the guy said they would not refund anything.

I will be arriving one day later with a flight going via Kuala Lumpur now.

Can i expect from etihad any kind of compensation or am i a dreamer as they are not under EU RULES?

PS: was looking for a girl in Abu Dhabi but they are expensive. Seen ADS for 700 euros an hour hahaha

Check with your travel insurance provider.

Probably but it depends on how much your flight was delayed by - it looks like it needs to be 3+ hours. You will probably need to claim when you get home

3+ hours All flights between 1,500km – 3,500km eg, Manchester to Malaga Yes €400 (£310)

3-4 hours

Flights between an EU and non-EU airport, 3,500km+ eg, London to New York No €300 (£240)

4 hours+

Flights between an EU and non-EU airport, 3,500km+ eg, London to New York Yes €600 (£470)

As indicated above the delay has to be more than 3 hours, less than this and they have no obligation to compensate you.

The loss of one nights pre-paid accommodation is not their problem and this is something that would normally be covered by travel insurance, the credit card company may compensate you but they also have no obligation to do so, as you will have accepted the booking agents terms and conditions at the time you made the reservation and somewhere in them it will have a clause on late arrival.

This does not mean you should not ask the credit card company, they may do it as a courtesy.

I am however shocked that anyone travelling from Europe would do so without even basic travel insurance.

I encountered delays with Etihad early this year . there are clear RULES about compensation , google it ! if the flight commences within the e.u. and you are within the criteria yes you will get what you are owed . however Etihad is based outside the eu !

anyway I did receive 40or 50000 miles which I hope to use next February !!

if you look up the topic I started you will find the details , I copied and pasted them

good luck !!!,

you have 3 or 6 months for sure, the only problem is claim lodging claim would be almost as much as the cost of the room, unless you booked into 5 star

It does not matter where the airline is based EU compensation RULES apply if the flight lands or takes off from an airport in the EU.

As the outgoing flight was less than 3h late EU compensation RULES do not apply (as far as I know)
