Help needed with editing software

Does anyone know of a good, easy to use, free video editing programme?

I have a lot of my own personal videos I ripped from VHS, camera and DVD to my computer and I want to put a PowerPoint presentation together and cut down the videos to 20 seconds or so.

Thanks in advance for all suggestions

if it is just trimming/cropping out video, i would suggest using avidemux, it's free although there are some video formats it doesn't support.

but if you want to do a full blown video editing, like adding text, titles, fading in / out videos, adding multiple sound tracks etc, I would suggest getting a hold of sony vegas, it's not free but

you could prob find a copy out there somewhere

They are simple Mpeg's

Would avidemux do that?

No fancy stuff, just cutting down the size, and put one after the other.

Be aware, cutting down the size is pretty fancy ..cos it involves codecs and re-encoding your audio/video files.

The editor you need depends greatly on the format of the source files ...there is more than one kind of Mpeg.

Best thing to do is download a bunch of video editors, then one at a time drag all your source files into the empty timeline of each editor, if the editor doesn't like 1 or more of your files it should complain, if it does complain move on to the next editor ...of course you won't know if it works until you actually re-encode the file which the editor might do without complaining but when you go to play the audio might be out of sync or something.

As well as Sony Vegas I would recommend CyberLink PowerDirector Ultimate which, so far, accepts everything I've thrown at it....unlike Adobe's video editor!

This may have been asked before......can anybody recommend a good video editing software that is easy to use.  Specifically when it comes to blurring faces.  I have Final Cut Pro but am finding it hard to use.

Here's a tutorial on how to blur with virtualdub
