Hi there. I'd like to know if you discover that you have terminal or major health issues will you go back to your homeland?

I think its easy to say that if one has a family back home, you will return. But if not?

thank you

Good Question , I,m going to be an Expat in some stage in 2015/16 . If my health goes bad such as dementia , cancer etc., I would go back home .

Family or no family in case of serious condition i would go back as in my EU country whe have good and not costly med. care (national  gov. insurrance plan ) and even legal option for euthanasia  ....... sad...... but less painfull than a balcony jump. :Think1:

Even i have a moderate Thai sick & hospital Insurance (to fix me up capable to fly home country) Full rights again  as soon i put foot on national ground .

I got dementia before coming here. Trouble is I can't really be sure.

My Pattaya budget is perfectly adequate as long as I don't spend any of it

It's not uncommon for older farang expats with health issues,to hire a TG to look after them, help with doctor's visits, meds, help with shopping, escort them around town, cook, clean ect.  I had 2 expats friends in this situation and talked with one of the TG and she said no sex, only take care of farang.

The thought of having to return to the UK fills me with dread, that is why I have decent health insurance over here.  I believe I can get good treatment, same as on NHS and with less waiting time, hope I am not proved wrong!

I would feel more comfortable in a Thai hospital that caters to farangs than in a hospital back in the States.

I don't have family in the States.  Wouldn't want to impose on friends or search around for housing either.

Depends on age i think. If i was in my 70s/80s i would stay here and see my life out. If it was cancer you are f***ed anyway so why go to all the pain and trouble of going home. If you are young enough that you might be "cured" then fair enough give it a try. The only issue might be if you were in a lot of pain and it couldn't be managed here but then there is always the pattaya flying club.
