Ive looked on the forum at the threads about the River Kwai but cant decide whats best. Im going to go for maybe two nights with my lady. From reading the forum I would like to book one of the hotels on the river......but cant decide if it would be best to book a trip once i get there to see everything or is it a good idea to hire a motorbike and do it in my own time and is it easy enough to drive to Hellfire Pass if i hire a bike. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated

I have been for many a long week end & I love it up there!

A bike is a good idea for getting around town but the sights are 2 far away for a small M/bike.

2 nights imho is not quite enough!

there is 1/2 doz SIGHTS AROUND TOWN BUT Hellfire & Erawan falls are at least an hr away!

Best book these at the resort! Cheap enough and you normally get a meal in the priice!

Say hello to Steve who owns the corner bar and Nam the owner of Ting Tong bar in the street going to the bridge. (Aussie Steve in Pattaya)

From memory, some tours offer to do Erawan & Hellfire in the same day.....but it is VERY rushed.

Even going on an organised tour to one of them (especially Erawan) can be a bit restrictive.

You really want to take your own time exploring the scenery there...swimming, trekking etc.

Out of the two, Hellfire is the one that is better done on an organised tour. I'd definitely consider renting a car for the other.

The Cheap Charlie option is to take the public bus up to Erawan!

Stayed at this river side hotel 2 years ago, lovely views, clean, near bars etc.

Breakfast bar and pool overlooking river.

I stayed in the floating house and absolutely loved it..  We were in a very large villa like room with air conditioning and mostly swam during the day.

You'll want to find a place on land and spend at least a night to do the Hellfire pass trip.

Hellfire Pass--make sure you are somewhat in shape. After traversing down, many steep steps back up. You will be winded.

There are heaps of TA's who can look after you

there is one across the road from the cemetary

and also fronts as a salon. They do very cheap tours

wherever you want to go. Take the long boat up river

then bus to Hellfire Pass take the train (death railway) back
