.

.. hey, 'love me pum pum' .. you would do well to ship one in with your household shipment.

.. I've shopped about in BKK .. most here are only gas fired grills (jeez, it's gas .. to me, why not use an oven?) .. few smoker bbqs are available .. they are both very expensive.

.. for comparison, a standard Weber Kettle smoker sells in the US for THB 3,300 .. the same one in BKK at www.bbqthai.com sells for THB 12,900 .. shipping, or import duties, or supply-demand gap .. the high prices appear consistent across all bbq grills, gas and smokers .. silly.

.. if you keep it reasonably clean, the standard Weber Kettle will give you several years of good service.

.. but, if you are serious about bbq and do so frequently, think about bringing in a proper, heavy duty smoker with an offset firebox .. the mainline Texas Smoker is available here for THB 23,900 .. available in the US at about THB 10,700 .. this rig will last a lifetime.

.. very serious business, bbq .. it is religion where I was raised.

Finally someone who understands BBQ.

.

.. I hear you, expatdude, I hear you .. as I stated: "very serious business, BBQ".

.. with roots in the Deep South (Alabama) and thereafter in Texas, I got religion on BBQ early on, listening to the old geezers debate this fine art while sitting around a smoking pit nearly levitating with the sweet smell of smoulding mesquite or applewood, and whatever unlucky animal wandered in range that morning.

.. if you wanted to start a highly spirited debate, you could bring up the subjects of college football, religion, politics, or BBQ and impassioned debate would surely enliven your day.

.. much was debated about what sort of pit is best .. but, no such disagreement was ever debated between gas-fired, or wood-fired .. no .. never!

.. only smoked meat satisfies that manly primative hunger still hidden in our DNA.

.. gas? .. why, hell, gas is for sissy-assed cry babies with itty-bitty teenie-tiny penises .. jeez, everyone knows that!

.. okaaay .. sooo .. let the trash talkin' commence .. ;-)

.. [if this gets ugly enough, maybe kamluan will consider adding smokers to his line]

Shhhhhh, sissy-assed cry babies with itty-bitty teenie-tiny penises are very sensitive.

I had a small barbecue build by a sum-tom cart maker for me many years ago--cost me a thousand baht all in. I think if you knew the ins an outs you could get one built for a very reasonable price. Just bring in the thermometers and such.

.

.. there is some decent ornamental iron mongery here, where a Texas-style smoker might be fabricated.

.. communicating and dealing with local craftsmen is another thing altogether, but not impossible .. provide the materials, super simple dimensioned drawings and some photos to go by, and hope they get it 80% correct.

.. it is something they have never seen, so they would be doing R&D on our baht.

You can not compare a amazon US price.,...we are in Thailand!! And all bbq's are located in Pattaya with a nice showroom so you can see what you buy.

.. good news for traditional BBQ fans (aka 'real men') .. a Weber Kettle knock-off is now available in Thailand at a very reasonable price .. THB 2,700! .. importers are selling the original Weber Kettle for THB 12,700 .. eee-yowww!

.. I spied it today at the Home Pro at Mega Bangna in BKK .. the basics are the same as the original Weber Kettle .. this is a proper smoker, not one of those gas-fired contraptions dishonorably parading around as "BBQ" .. to operate, this requires real men who understand charcoal and fire and smoke .. manly men driven by testosterone .. men with skills reaching back to the days of brontosaurus t-bones and mastodon rib eyes.

.. fabricated enamel metal kettle .. 22" diameter cook rack .. ash box .. damper .. the detailing and construction tolerances might be less than an original Weber, but I think this is a great value when you compare it with the costs for real smokers here in Thailand.
