Do I need to change my immigration visa from O to B?

I'm here on an immigration O visa, and married.

 

A language school has offered to get me a work permit so I can work there, but say I need to go to Laos and obtain an immigration B visa.

 

Do I need to do this, or can I stay on my current marriage O visa and still get the work permit?

I believe that you need to get a B visa to get a work permit. I was in a similar situation a few years ago and was told by my company's visa guy that it was the only way to get a work permit.

i was under the impression one could obtain a WP if here on a extension of the O Visa based on Marriage

Yeah, me too, I'm sure I heard or read that somewhere, but can't remember where I saw it or who told me?
