I,m using Microsoft Security Essentials and FF also and never had a problem in 6 years with malaware so its your "dodgy" websites that have caused this-as suggested try anti-malawarebites scan first if no success google will solve your particular problem :GoldenSmile1:

As well as malwarebytes it might be worth resetting firefox to the factory default setting, this is done by going to the help sub menu and choosing "troubleshooting information" you will then see the option to "reset firefox", when you do this your old firefox profile will be saved on the desktop in a folder called old firefox data, you can drag anything you need from this to the new profile folder.

You may have unwanted ad ons. I had the same problem until recently. Go to the tools menu and click on ad ons. If you see a lot of ad ons, you may want to delete them.

Lesson to learn - don't trust that fucking guy again - what a douche.

If you ever get into problems again that most thorough Malware scanning regime can be found here and well worth doing at least once even by the novice:

http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=35407

If you really want to get secure you should also consider for FF:

NoScript

AdBlock+

Considering how much time and reliance we are becoming on using the web it is well worth spending a small amount of time "locking that shit down" now rather than getting completely hacked/hijacked and spending a massive amount of hours or costs for recovery and or losing everything.

Use Spybot and avira myself protect against  most attacks got hit once in 15 years with a particular virulent  Trojan man I watched him destroying my computer

work on the web more or less 24/7  so works for me in most cases

The computer needs a good clean up before as many are hidden

I was having a similar problem and am extremely tech illiterate, but here's what I did:

 - went into my folder to delete programs, sorted all by date and deleted anything and everything added in the last few days

 - dumped Firefox and went back to Chrome

Chrome loaded some shit I had no interest in, so I went back and deleted them, as well.

So far, it seems that I got the unwanted ads -- they made it next to impossible to even search the Net, so happy as Hell to have them gone.

I should also add that this is my "back-up" laptop -- an old one that I pretty much just use for porn (and some PA, of course!)

I did the opposite. I've been w/Firefox for years, but their constant problems w/Adobe Flash made me switch to Chrome. In addition to CCleaner, I like Glary Utilities. The couple XS things got totally fucked I had to resort to 'Hijack This'. If you're hitting porn or gaming sites, download Opera. They haven't written a lot of malicious code for Opera yet.
