Baht Bus Scam when leaving walking street

Anyone see the guys  as you leave walking street asking you if you want a taxi charge you 300 baht and then put you on a baht bus?

They are offering it to you as a private hire, just walk up to the corner of 2nd Rd for the regular baht bus.

 

The word "Taxi" is used as meaning hire of a vehicle for you and your parties exclusive use in the way you describe, not the physical nature of the vehicle.

 

Taxi really means "not 10 baht" in this case.

Not a scam, if the bahtbus is empty , you are likely to take on a private baht bus ride . Best to get on when people are already on it , if empty , make sure you ask if it is a 10/20 bt ride .

Maybe deception is a better word than scam. At the AP they ask if you want a limo, then put you in a car.

It's not really a bad deal if your hotel is'nt on a baht bus route. they are easily knocked down to 200b. which for me and wingman and 2 girls is cheaper than a motorbike taxi

I grabbed a baht bus one night on my last trip, 200b straight to Soi 14 was very handy.

I always remember getting on one at beach road  and then it stopped again to pick up another couple, she was Thai and the guy looked Japanese and she then  began to talk to the driver  in Thai. H e then took a completely different direction, obviously she was going to pay him more, I say she clearly the Japanese fella was. Although a bit pissed off as I was first at least he didn't except my ten baht when alighted the bus.

Yes, just a little more than the price of a LD. 

 

However, be prepared after a heavy rain when some sois are too flooded for motorcy taxis, then the baht bus 'taxis' will ask double their normal rates, but it is still worth it to get home.  On these rainy nights, sometimes you can find someone else going to the same area and split the costs so then you're back to the normal costs.

Very quick fill if between 12pm to 1am . 2nd Rd to Jomtien . I noticed big queue last December/January around 3pm to 7 pm , never seen before .

"Ridiculous naievity of the highest order" Keep your hair on we all make mistakes. I made the same (perhaps slightly naive) mistake a few trips ago. In his defence, at least the OP didn't clear his throat and deposit its contents on the ground beside the baht bus' front wheel (which I know was just plain stupid). Why don't you just go balls out & recommend we both get banned from the forum?

I walked over to 2nd road from walking street and had my barfine negociate, 100 baht for ride home.

 

In the spirit of the current thread, I'm going to complain about another unfair practice: I got off a normal shared baht bus and stepped forward to pay, but the driver took off before I handed him the money. I was astonished! I had rang the buzzer, and I was the only one getting off, and I did not delay attempting to pay. I really don't know what happened. Is my money not good enough?

Most of the girls I have been with have steered clear of those taxi drivers because they talk shit to them when they walk by. Regular baht bus is just around the corner on 2nd road.
