Angels is a new restaurant that opened maybe two weeks ago in the same premises as the former Copa Cabana. It's located on the Soi 15 that runs between 2nd Road and Soi Bukhao. It's located right next to the Urban Condo and about 100 yards from the Mercure hotel.

The big news about Angels is that it features an all-you-can eat buffet for 249 baht.  Drinks are very cheap, with a bottle of water at 15 baht; a bottle of Leo or Chang at 55 baht and SML o Heineken at 70 baht.  I've eaten there twice in the past few days and was happy with my meals, especially the starters.  I could have eaten only from the starter table and still felt like I'd gotten my money's worth.

The emphasis is on Italian food, although the interior doesn't reflect a particularly Italian theme.

There's a table with starters, salad ingredients and antipasto; the main buffet table with 12 hot dishes, including three or four Thai dishes; and a small selection of dessert items.

The manager, a very friendly guy, told me that the dishes on offer vay from day to day. What will keep me coming back is the antipasto. The food on the main buffet table is OK, but it's not going to win any prizes.  Some of the hot dishes have been excellent.  I thought the pumpkin risotto was delicious. The antipasto followed by a plate of it alone would be fie with me.  The pasta dishes were OK, but a bit skimpy on seasoning and cheese. On the other hand, the Thai dishes were too spicy for my palate. The mashed potatoes were more like potato pur`e, far too watery.

My selections from the main buffet table:

What was labeled "lamb stew" was actually  "stewed lamb," small pieces of lamb that had been long-cooked.  It was very tasty; I just wish the mashed potatoes had been better.

The dessert was a shot-glass of panna cotta:

The manager brought me over a glass full of bread sticks to go with my antipasto, which was a nice touch.

I'm not a huge fan of buffet dining, but I'll probably visit Angels again because it's so close to where I live.  It's an OK buffet at a reasonable price.

i see that the ngo's have got the place well staked out already.

table for four and sit there for 6 hours.

there was a Korean all you can eat restaurant in Pattaya which attempted to keep them out

by charging extra for those who sat more than one hour.

pity.

otherwise looks good.

just because i am paranoid does not mean that they are not following me.

What would any patron, including ngo's, do for 6 hours in an eating establishment? Creating music and entertainment would work but I don't see this happening here.

Maybe they lodge together and the resturant offers a more stimulating environment...although the people in the pictures don't look particularly stimulated?

A career counselor suggested that I apply for positions with Thailand NGOs. My background is healthcare IT as well as some direct patient care. Are there any NGOs there doing anything useful that would be a good fit?

Thanks for reading and thanks also to Evil for the numerous and excellent reviews. :)

How was the egg tart?

I became quite addicted to them on my last trip to Macau/Hong Kong.

It was very good.  I could have eaten a lot of them.

A few things to keep in mind if you decide to try Angels:

There are meat dishes (chicken, pork, and lamb one night), but I wouldn't expect great things on that front, although the lamb and chicken were good.  Angels is probably best suited to those who enjoy antipasto and pasta in unlimited quantities at a reasonable price.

Go early (around 6 pm) or else you risk a very picked-over buffet.

The Thai dishes are limited (maybe three or four of them), so a TG who isn't into farang food won't have much choice.

Thanks for the review Evil. Based on it I thought I would risk 249 baht tonight.

The antipasto is not my thing but had a bit of everything and wolfed the lot, there were a few different dishes on tonight from when you were there, but other than the German sausage I cannot remember any.

The main dishes were (from memory) pork stew, spinach omelette, asparagus omelette, chicken drumstick, chilli con carne, gnocchi, cannelloni, tortellini, mashed potato, boiled rice and fried rice. I am not keen on spinach and asparagus but had a bit of everything - twice.

There was panacotta, green apples and banana's as dessert.

I thought the quality was good, the price is right and I will return.

I spoke with one of the owners/ managers - not sure which - who said they will be doing breakfasts soon from 11am, and a Thai buffet from 1.00 - 5.00 pm for 149 baht.

I had a couple of glasses of red wine which was one of the best reds I have tasted, (Californian I am told)

Evil thanks for the excellent review, will give it a go soon.. I have been to the all you can eat steak place at the Avenues for 259 baht .. And it was ok... Far from great but ok... They have a place in front of the kitchen where all the raw meat is kept, some marinated.. you pick a chunk or two put it on a plate and hand it to the chef with your table number clipped to the plate ala Oshi Express...the clips are at your table.. I had a chunk of marinated beef, ask for medium rare and it came out perfect.. They bring it to your table when it's ready.. The rest of the buffet was so, so with your standard Thai style of foreign and Thai food..I was there early so everything was fresh but disappointingly cold.. The steak which I am guessing at 249 baht is Thai beef was the best part..

We ended up there after seeing the buffet price at Oshi Express which is right upstairs at 549 baht or something close to that.. Wow... As I have been many times to the one in Bkk at IT square which is out near Don Maung and it was alway excellent for 349 baht just a few years ago.. Can someone confirm is 549 price just Pattaya or have all the ones in Bkk also raised their prices?

Fuck on!

I'm sorry to thread jack this topic, but what the fuck is an "NGO"?  I've been on this board for a while, never seen it used and couldn't find anything on it in the thread about common acronyms.

Only thing I could find was "Non-Governmental Organizations"....and that completely baffles me in this context....

I have not eaten at Angeles, but I have eaten at the Avenue Buffet on the ground floor. It is part of a national chain with another restaurant in Central Mall on the 5th floor. They also opened a restaurant in Cozy Beach, but it closed after a few months.

The food is average, OK if you want a cheap filling meal, the steamer dishes can get a little stale depending on the time of day you visit.

Angeles pictures look appetizing. I'll try it in the near future and give you a follow-up on the differences between the two !

  • 4 months later...

Angel's prices are now 119 Baht for breakfast and 299 Baht for dinner. Breakfast buffet is much smaller now with limited options. Scrambled eggs on buffet and not made to order like before. As the place is quiet it left them dry and not very appealing. Quality in general is good.

Even with these changes still a good deal. But if you knew the deal before it is disappointing.

Thanks for update, the other buffet place in the Avemue is Four Seasons which I've not been to as I went to there place in Cenrtal Mall, and it was shit, like being back in school, absolutely the worse food in town, full of Russian cheap Charlie's ..The Four Seasons should be avoided at all cost...
