One of the most talked about and bestselling books of last year, this is the no holds-barred autobiography of a sporting legend driven to the brink of self destruction

The bestseller that has everyone talking.

In this, his first, autobiography, ‘Iron’ Mike Tyson pulls no punches and lays bare the story of his remarkable life and career.

Co-written with Larry Sloman, author of Anthony Keidis’s best-selling memoir ‘Scar Tissue’, this is a visceral, and unputdownable story of a man born and raised to brutality, who reached the heights of stardom before falling to crime, substance abuse and infamy.

Antony and Cleopatra by Colleen McCullough.

Traded in today @ Canterbury Tales Bookshop / Book exchange / Cafe, Pattaya.

A sweeping epic of ancient Rome from the #1 bestselling author of "The Thorn Birds"In this breathtaking follow-up to "The October Horse," Colleen McCullough turns her attention to the legendary romance of Antony and Cleopatra, and in this timeless tale of love, politics, and power, proves once again that she is the best historical novelist of our time.

Caesar is dead, and Rome is, again, divided. Lepidus has retreated to Africa, while Antony rules the opulent East, and Octavian claims the West, the heart of Rome, as his domain.

Though this tense truce holds civil war at bay, Rome seems ripe for an emperor, a true Julian heir to lay claim to Caesar's legacy.

With the bearing of a hero, and the riches of the East at his disposal, Antony seems poised to take the prize.

Like a true warrior king, he is a seasoned general whose lust for power burns alongside a passion for women, feasts, and Chian wine. His rival, Octavian, seems a less convincing candidate: the slight, golden haired boy is as controlled as Antony is indulgent and as cool headed and clear eyed as Antony is impulsive.

Indeed, the two are well matched only in ambition.

And though politics and war are decidedly the provinces of men in ancient Rome, women are adept at using their wits and charms to gain influence outside their traditional sphere.

Cleopatra, the ruthless, golden eyed Queen, welcomes Antony to her court and her bed but keeps her heart well guarded.

A ruler first and a woman second, Cleopatra has but one desire: to place her child on his father, Julius Caesar's, vacant throne. Octavian, too, has a strong woman by his side: his exquisite wife, raven-haired Livia Drusilla, who learns to wield quiet power to help her husband in his quest for ascendancy.

As the plot races toward its inevitable conclusion, with battles on land and sea, conspiracy and murder, love and politics become irrevocably entwined.

McCullough's knowledge of Roman history is detailed and extensive.

Her masterful and meticulously researched narrative is filled with a cast of historical characters whose motives, passions, flaws, and insecurities are vividly imagined and expertly drawn.

The grandeur of ancient Rome comes to life as a timeless human drama plays out against the dramatic backdrop of the Republic's final days.

Seven Ways to Die: by William Diehl,

Traded in today @ Canterbury Tales Bookshop / Book exchange / Cafe, Pattaya.

From the Nez Perce Indian reservation in Idaho to New York’s Central Park is a straight line right through Bill Diehl’s last and most intriguing lead character, Micah Cody.

There are seven basic ways to die.

In 1969 Dr. John C. Cavanaugh catalogued them all in his Primer of Forensic Pathology Case Studies for the Novice M.E.

Micah Cody is a 30-something NYPD captain of homicide, who’s founded a special unit known as TAZ with city wide license to take over any investigation at all, with special focus on serial killers.

Now its ultimate challenge is on the loose in Manhattan, with three victims already whose causes of death seem like intentional defiance of TAZ’s existence and four to go in four deadly days leading up to Halloween.

Chronicling it all with great amusement is the Capote like award-winning crime writer Ward Hamilton who, egged on by his sexually voracious socialite bedmate, is determined to bring TAZ to its knees journalistically.

Captain Micah Cody's Nez Perce name is “Youngest Wolf” from his ability to communicate with the animals and read nature's signs.

As all hell is breaking loose in Manhattan, the wolves in Central Park howl, the peregrine falcons shriek their warnings and Micah is listening.

Seven Ways to Die is a non-stop, sexy read with Diehl doing to the end what he did best throughout his bestselling career.

On the Road by Jack Kerouac.

Traded in today @ Canterbury Tales Bookshop / Book exchange / Cafe, Pattaya.

Five decades after it was first published, Jack Kerouac's seminal Beat novel On the Road finally finds its way to the big screen, in a production from award-winning director Walter Salles (Motorcycle Diaries) starring Sam Riley (Control, Brighton Rock), Garret Hedlund (Friday Night Lights), Kristen Stewart (Twilight), Kirsten Dunst, Amy Adams and Viggo Mortensen.

Sal Paradise (Sam Riley), a young innocent, joins his hero Dean Moriarty (Garrett Hedlund), a traveller and mystic, the living epitome of Beat, on a breathless, exuberant ride back and forth across the United States.

Their hedonistic search for release or fulfilment through drink, sex, drugs and jazz becomes an exploration of personal freedom, a test of the limits of the American dream.

A brilliant blend of fiction and autobiography, Jack Kerouac's exhilarating novel swings to the rhythms of 1950's underground America, racing towards the sunset with unforgettable exuberance, poignancy and autobiographical passion.

One of the most influential and important novels of the 20th century, On the Road is the book that launched the Beat Generation and remains the bible of that literary movement.

hotel Honolulu by Paul Theroux.

Traded in today @ Canterbury Tales Bookshop / Book exchange / Cafe, Pattaya.

Newly married and having recently taken over the management of a hotel in Honolulu, a former writer is drawn into the chaotic lives of his guests and into the distinctive customs and rhythms of the distant island.

As witness to the many contrasting, and often ribald, chronicles of the hotel's characters, he ultimately finds personal salvation through returning to writing once again.

The result is this novel in eighty distinct episodes, a Chaucerian sequence of strange pilgrims and just as strange islanders confronting each other, and their fate, in the rooms of the seedy hotel.

Alone in Berlin by Hans Fallada.

Traded in today @ Canterbury Tales Bookshop / Book exchange / Cafe, Pattaya.

"The greatest book ever written about German resistance to the Nazis."
This never before translated masterpiece by a heroic best selling writer who saw his life crumble when he wouldn't join the Nazi Party is based on a true story.

It presents a richly detailed portrait of life in Berlin under the Nazis and tells the sweeping saga of one working class couple who decides to take a stand when their only son is killed at the front. With nothing but their grief and each other against the awesome power of the Reich, they launch a simple, clandestine resistance campaign that soon has an enraged Gestapo on their trail, and a world of terrified neighbors and cynical snitches ready to turn them in.

In the end, it's more than an edge of your seat thriller, more than a moving romance, even more than literature of the highest order it's a deeply stirring story of two people standing up for what's right, and each other.

Hans Fallada was one of Germany's best-selling authors ranking with Thomas Mann and Hermann Hesse prior to the rise of the Nazis.
But while those writers fled Germany, Fallada stayed. Refusing to join the Nazi Party, he suffered numerous difficulties, including incarceration in an insane asylum.
After the war, he wrote Every Man Dies Alone based on an actual Gestapo file.
He died just before its publication in 1947.

Frazzled by Ruby Wax.

Traded in today @ Canterbury Tales Bookshop / Book exchange / Cafe, Pattaya.

"500 years ago no-one died of stress: we invented this concept and now we let it rule us.
We might have evolved to be able to miraculously balance on seven inch heels, but as far as our emotional development is concerned we're still swimming with the pond scum.
If we don't advance our more human qualities then we're doomed evolution wise to become cyborgs, with an imprint of an 'Apple' where our hearts used to be.
Ruby Wax shows us a scientific solution to these modern problems: mindfulness.

I know what you're thinking, what if I don't want to stare at a butterfly wing or hear the single ting of a wind chime? My definition of mindfulness isn't about sitting erect on a hillock, legs in a knot, humming a mantra that's probably the phone book sung backwards, it's something that can help us all: learning to notice your thoughts and feelings so you can truly experience life.

Outrageously witty, smart and accessible, Ruby Wax shows ordinary people how and why to change for good.
With mindfulness advice for relationships, for parents, for children and for teenagers, and a six-week course based on her studies of Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy with Mark Williams at Oxford University, A Mindfulness Guide for the Frazzled is the only guide you need for a healthier, happier life."

The Conjuror on the Kwai by Peter Fyans.

Traded in today @ Canterbury Tales Bookshop / Book exchange / Cafe, Pattaya.

The Conjuror on the Kwai is the incredibly moving story of Gus Anckorn, a British soldier who was captured by the Japanese and held for over three and a half years.
Before the war, Gus was a magician and throughout the war, entertained both fellow soldiers and Japanese guards with his tricks. Gus has a brilliant sense of humour and a 'tell it as it is' attitude which got him into a number of scrapes with both the Japanese and his own side.
He has a remarkable humility to his character and is extremely endearing, both in the book and face to face guaranteeing massive media attention.
Gus experienced terrible ordeals that no one should have to face. He should have been killed on four or five occasions, but remarkably survived due to quick thinking and good luck.
Gus also reveals the heartache of leaving his fiancee behind and not knowing if he would ever see her again.
This is an incredibly moving book and will surely be considered as one of the classic Far East POW stories.
Gus is still alive and active today, very publicity focused and well connected.
He still holds the unique claim of being the youngest ever member of the Magic Circle and is now currently their oldest ever member. He is also a member of the Masons.
Gus has appeared on TV when they arranged for him to meet a Japanese POW camp guard on the bridge at Kwai.
