La Bocca Jomtien

Did my usual trick of turning up at a restaurant the one day they shut each week, so no 'Moonlight Fine Dining' at the new place in Jomtien for me. So on to La Bocca, at the Thepprasit/Thapraya junction, first visit.
An appetiser before the bruschetta arrived. Tasty. Loads of tomato with the bruschetta, lots of flavour including a hint of fennel.

The escalope was huge, too much for me tonight. Good quality meat. Just a minor moan about the sautéed potatoes, which were too soft, no crispiness at all. Possibly the Thai spuds at fault again.

No room for a dessert, just a couple of espressos which were excellent. You know the coffee's going to be good when you put the sugar in and it takes 5 minutes to sink to the bottom.

Couple of glasses of wine.... like their option of some better wines by the glass, not just a single house red. Tried one to start with, a Schioppettino... the Italian boss assured me that it was like a typical French pinot noir... but I just couldn't see it. Not a wine I would try again. Second glass was a Rosso Veronese. Very nice.

Overall impression, excellent service, good food, reasonable prices. Italian boss goes out of his way to ask all customers if everything's ok. Total bill 1240 bht, but 680 bht of that was for 2 glasses of wine, 2 espressos, and a bottle of water. Although I was drinking by the 220 bht/240 bht glass, the same wine by half litre carafe or bottle was very reasonably priced.
