Why not the Americans use it!?

Americans use to use "illegal alien" not it is "undocumented immigrant" as they flood across the border lol.

Wow, 11 pages!

To sum it up? :D

Basically if you have a visa pre-stamped into your passport (i.e. you applied for it) then all is ok with the world but no more arriving and 30 days stamps?

No, to sum it up... don't depend/expect to:

1) get a tourist visa, come to Thailand, use up time ---> go to Thai embassy in neighboring country and get a new tourist visa ---> return Thailand ---> repeat over and over

2) Come to Thailand, get a visa exemption (30 day stamp you mention), use up time ---> do 'visa run' to neighboring country and immediately return Thailand to get new visa exemption---> repeat over and over

If your activity is like what the Thai authorities expect 'real tourists' to do (single tourist visa at a time, or widely spaced visa exemptions), you should be fine.

They're looking to crack down on people abusing the previous visa/exemption system to stay in Thailand to live long term (without getting the proper visa type) or work illegally.
