Someone told me they where weird with the booze. They offer drink service the entire flight? Booze makes the flight so much better !!

They offered booze before the first meal and then a re-fill as you were finishing your food. She started to pour wine in the smaller wine glass but I pointed to the larger plastic water glass and she filled it up. I also took a Xanax shortly after and slept most of the flight and can't comment if they came back to offer more booze.

As I mentioned before, this was sitting in economy on the upper level...maybe the stewardesses felt less overwhelmed because there are fewer passengers. The service did seem much better than on the lower level for my outbound flight but YMMV

Planning the same thing man. I'm sitting upper deck both legs though. I plan on sleeping only a couple of hours the night before, then having a couple of drinks and xanax once on board. How was the flight from China to bkk?

The flight from CAN to BKK was uneventful...I sat next to another hobbyist from SoCal (who was heading to Chiang Mai) so the conversation passed the time quickly. I can't remember what plane it was though...A330, 757, etc.

Have you already selected your upper level seats or will make the request when checking in? I never was able to choose my seats on the CS website or by calling the customer service number. I asked when checking in for the first leg at BKK.

If the upper level seats are taken then avoid the exit row seats...I made the mistake of having one on the lower level from LAX to CAN...narrow and hard seats, cold from the being close to the hatch, close to the lavatories, and close to the bassinets with crying babies. Made the flight seem much longer and not worth the extra legroom.

Flight next to a bunch of crying babies would be hell for me. I booked through Orbitz and it allowed me to choose my seats. The upper deck went pretty fast. The can to lax flight only has a couple of seats still available. It says my seats are confirmed 74-H inbound and 75-H outbound. I guess the window seat had a little compartment for you.

Last week I booked on skyscanner for my next trip (depart 11-20 return 12-16) for $888 round trip (LAX/BKK).

I was not able to book seats.  Bummer. If I had know about Orbitz and allowing seat selection I would have paid extra for that.

Call.  When I booked through Vyamo (through Kayak), I also had to call to get seat assign.

Anybody know the best way to even contact CZ? There is no email address or international number to call. Also, how much time do you guys suggest for a domestic connection at LAX? My flight from CAN gets in at 6pm on a Monday and I was planning on taking a southwest flight departing at 9:30pm. Would this be enough time?

LAX is mess up.  I believe you have to pick up your luggage and THEN re-check them again at LAX.  So allow plenty of time.

3 1/2 hours should be plenty of time, but are there any other Southwest flights that night (just in case)?

As casinoclub notes, you're going to have to clear immigration, get you bag, clear customs, then from the Bradley terminal down to the Southwest terminal (Terminal 1).  I'm not aware of shuttles that run between the terminals, but I'm sure they have them.  I'd say it's about a 15 minute walk, but they have free luggage carts at the Bradley terminal, so not too bad.

Southwest is about the best option in case you miss a flight or need to make a change -- no change fee; just have to pay the difference in fare.

Unfortunately, that is the latest flight I can get from them. There is a flight on Delta that leaves at 10:30p.m., but I would hate to have to sit around an extra hour when trying to get home. I heard LAX is awful to get through immigration. I will probably roll the dice with the SW flight at 9:30p.m.

Depending upon how long you have before your travel dates, consider signing up for Global Entry.  I think it still costs $100, it'ss good for 5 years and you fly through immigration and customs (pun intended).

I do all of my International travel through LAX, and I'm always through immigration and at the luggage carousel before my bags.  You also use the "flight crew" lane for customs, so you cut ahead of almost everyone else there, too.

It takes a while to get your application in, get an appointment for the interview, etc., but WELL WORTH IT in my opinion.

They have been flying an A380 between a LAX/CAN for over a year now. The CAN/BKK portion will be an A320 or a 737, though. The A380 is a good aircraft.

Business class on the upper deck is good - not top flight, but still very good.

The real benefit was that RT business fare was about $4000 from the east coast last summer - considerably less than my usual Delta flight. Also, I could leave after work and arrive in BKK mid-am which I like better than close to midnight. And I can leave a BKK around 4pm and make it into my office by 8 the following morning.

The downside is the connection through LAX and CAN - don't really like either airport - vs the usual single connection through NRT. And, well, it's still China Southern.

just had the pleasure of using it for the first time, and it was great to blow past all the other folks when I landed in Honolulu...  it also qualifies you for the TSA fast track in airport security...  which is also a HUGE pleasure to never have to wait in line for again.

100 bucks for 5 years is correct.

How much of a pain was the interview process? Anything dealing with the government is always a hassle....

The interview is a piece of cake -- it's getting it SCHEDULED that is the hassle.  They only do them at certain airports.

Here's how the timing worked on mine:

Submitted my online application around January 9, 2013; received conditional approval on January 24, so right about 2 weeks later (I just looked up the emails -- I don't have those type of trivial details memorized!).

Then I got lucky and there was a cancellation right before I went online to schedule my interview, so I was able to get one within 2 weeks.  Looking at other time periods, I expected to have to wait forever to get in.  The schedule may have lightened up these days.

I can't recall how long it took for it to be ready to go after the interview, but I don't think it was a long while.

Just looked into Global Entry. I would tottaly jump on it, but TSA Pre√ is not included with it.

I went for Global Entry because of this (found this online):

Global Entry allows expedited customs screenings 100 percent of the time at eligible airports.

Even if an airport offers a PreCheck lane, TSA PreCheck doesn’t apply 100 percent of the time. Even those who are approved may still be subject to random screenings and not have access to the expedited line.

Some helpful blogs on this subject:

http://petergreenberg.com/2013/08/20/global-entry-vs-tsa-pre-check-which-is-worth-it/

As I understand it (and as it has worked for me), Global Entry makes you eligible to get TSA PreCheck denoted on your boarding pass for domestic flights, but it is not guaranteed for all flights.  That said, singing up for PreCheck does not guarantee that you will get it on all flights.

My experience -- knock on wood -- has been that I have consistently gotten PreCheck on my boarding passes once I entered it into all of my frequent flier accounts.

yes, it is, I just got global entry, and have breezed through the fast lane at the airports...  you give the airline your "known traveler number" you get with global entry, and you are good to go.

If that's the case then I'm getting it. I don't know where I read that, but it must have been old.

Put my app in for Global Entry 3 days ago. Just got the email saying I have been "conditionally approved". Did they give you the card at the interview, or did you have to wait even longer after the interview for full approval?

card came in the mail about a week after the face to face/photo thing...

I live at Lake Tahoe and the interviews are not done at my airport (Reno), fortunately I got an appt at Seatac during a 6 hour layover on my way home from trip 6...

was a breeze.

As Daddee notes, the card takes a while to come, but I think your passport is ready to go in a matter of minutes.  I didn't even realize i had a card, as I misplaced it after it arrived.  Came across it about 3 months ago, and I have had Global Entry for about a year and a half.

Any luck on getting an interview scheduled?

ya, footy, you're right, I didn't need the card when I was coming in the country, just the passport... was honolulu, and I blew past at least 150-200 people waiting...

I also got my "known traveler" number registered with all my airlines, and that gets your ticket marked for "precheck" with the airport security...  the card should work too if you don't have the note on the boarding pass.
