I caught dysentery from a restaurant in Pai. At first I thought it was food poisoning. 11 days and 11 pounds later I worked it out of my system. I did go to a number of pharmacies but they kept on giving me stuff for my stomach and Imodium. I had terrible night sweats and daily nausia and liquid shits. Little did I know how serious thing were. Harsh lesson learned.

The one that sticks in my mind is "never eat at an empty restaurant". That's what my Thai guesthouse owner told me. And next time I should have seen a doctor or gone to a clinic.

Hi Cosmic 36, I now avoid seafood like the plague, especially the stuff they sell on the beaches.

Do you still have your tonsils?

Yes

Yes Jock it tends to fuck things up when your having a good time. I have been lucky to have TG's at the time who really take of me.

I buy the pills from supposedly reliable sources, clinic's or Pharmacies. I  keep away from the stuff that's sold on the streets.

I did that last year and also did what someone else on here recommended.  Cleaned the filter in the AC.  I did not get the standard sore throat, cold, flu that I usually would get.  The filter was a disgusting mess. The hotel has only been operation for 5-6 yrs, and I doubt the filters have ever been cleaned.

I was once told to spray the room with fly/mosquito spray as I arrive and leave the room for a few hours, even before unpacking.

Also to take the filter out and clean it before using the air/cond.Then spray into the intake underarm deodorant as this has something in it

that will kill any bugs.

The problem with this has been that as soon as I get to Patts, I am that eager and keen to get out and grab some pussy that I always forget to do it

I was constantly Ill in Pattaya, there's a thread about it. Lots of germs and viruses about. The minute I got back to Scotland I was fine. I think its about building up an immunity to the specific germs and viruses in Pattaya, it may take some time.<br />Ive stayed in Thailand many times with no problem. Maybe a Pattaya specific problem, could even be related to all the BBBJs etc

clean the filter on the AC. wipe down surfaces with disinfecting (bleach) wipes, ESPECIALLY the TV remote. it's always filthy.

As always with the symptoms you describe, get LAB tested, get diagnosis and treatment. LAB TESTS!

The other method as described by Wombat69, the process of eliminating then adding back into the diet.

Best of luck next trip.

Hello Wombat69,

in the past i did feel the same while in Thailand: not good in my skin, my whole body feeling sick. Didn't know exactly what i was feeling, just feeling bad in generel, and having many of the symptons you discribe. I am almost 60 now and was feeling as an old man.

In my country, i was taking magnesium pils and they made me feel good.

So, while in Thailand, i did buy (and took 2 of them every day) magnesium pils and all my complains went away, i was feeling good.

Magnesium is something you need and when you don't have enough you wil feel sick without being able to point exactly what's wrong.

When you get older, your body wil not get enough magnesium unless you take supplements for it.

From the supplements i could buy and try in Thailand, BLACKMORES BIO MAGNESIUM did the best job for me.

Taking 2 every day gave me back the energy i needed to feel good.

My "yought-power" didn't come back, i just did feel good again.

Maybe you should try them out as wel, you can buy them in some pharmacys (ask for them) in Pattaya.

They are not expensive, around 100 bath for a bottle. They are not working as viagra-substitute. Just make you feel good in your skin.

If you try them, let us know the results for you. Old man have to help old man...

Now, at home, i get these magnesium-pils from my pharmacy, home made, no brand. They are even better.

G.day Hi Octane

Thats what got me puzzled.

It happens every trip about 10 days into my holiday.

Symptoms start off with a sore throat, runny nose, snezzing, heavy chest and the fever which comes goes evry 2-3 hours.

I mailny eat from the Sailor Bar in Soi 8 and beer garden or small cafes where the food is cooked instantly in front of me.

I am not a big drinker, usually 4-5 drinks a day, mainly Singhah or Sangsom.

I also asked my Doctor at home if the pills could be an issue, he didn't seem to think they were, he said they are basically a blood thinner

Thanks

Do you still have your tonsils?

"Yes"

You might start out with a mild form of tonsillitis, which lessen your immune system to other viruses.

Do you continue to drink alcohol and take kamagra while on antibiotics? There may be an interaction between the antibiotics and sildenafil causing the antibiotics not to work.  Where they the correct antibiotics to start with?  Did you complete the course?

Maybe before your next trip, with consulting your Doctor, start a course of antibiotics so you hit the ground running!

I have large tonsils, are prone to tonsillitis and get the same symptoms you have.

Hello halleman

Yes I am 61yrs old and in the back of my mind I am thinking maybe too much boom boom and it's draining the system.

I have read about vitamin supplements especially Zinc and Soya Lecithin as well as Magnesium.

These supplements are meant to aid in replenishing of the sperm and of course there are other benefits.

I am always good for 3-4 shots a day.

I don't think it's the answer to my dilema but I will take them for other reasons.

Take care "old man" buddy.

I have large tonsils, are prone to tonsillitis and get the same symptoms you have.

G'Day nixonsbest.

I used to suffer from Tonsillitis until I was about 24 yrs old and yes I did get a fever, very sore throat, sweating and the shakes.

Over the years it seems to have settled and I have not had an attack since.

Yes I still drink but not too much and I still pop 50mg of Kamagra and also take the antibiotics, silly billy aren't I.

My morning walks are not a leisurely stroll, I push myself hard, the pace is short of a jog and I do this for usually 2-3 hrs sometimes longer.

I wonder if this is also a catalyst as in March/April of this year Patts was very hot and Humid.

The antibiotics have never worked to any great degree but I have had TG,s who act like mothers and insist that I take them.

My other ailments which I have not mentioned are a slightly enlarged Prostate (no medication), type 2 Diabetic ( I take Diabex) and I only just found out on my last visit to my doctor, I could also have a Tyroid that is not functioning properly.Due for another blood test shortly to find out.

I did not bring these issues up as I did not think it was relevant.

However since you explained the tonsillitis I thought I would throw them in as well.

What you are saying could be valid except that as I have mentioned the minute I get on the plane the fever symptoms are gone.

Tonsillitis does not disappear that quick at least with me it didn't and the fever is constant, mine comes and goes every 2-3 hrs

I am going heed every bodies advice on various suggestions and put some strategies into place.

I will get tested for allergies, take supplements, try and travel in the cooler months of the year and not do any aggressive excising. I will also try to quit smoking, not take as much boner pills , cut out or limit the alcohol intake, clean my room and air con.

It seems I going to be in for one boring holiday 555.

Nixonsbest I do appreciate your advice and if it is a "mild" case of tonsillitis you could well be correct. The other shit that I am doing probably does not help it.

Thanks again

  • 2 weeks later...

I also had something similar here in Thailand. Night sweats and general lethargy. This continued for about a week as I tried to ride it out. During the ordeal I lost 10 kilos. Finally went to the local hospital and had all the tests done including extensive lab work. Doc tells me I had some kind of blood infection and was given antibiotics but by this time the symptoms were already subsiding. After about 2 weeks I was feeling back to normal but I never recovered the lost 10 kilos. Doc also advised against eating local (Thai) peanuts as  they are prone to cause blood infections. To be honest I don't know the answer to my malady.  This occured about 4 years ago and since that time I had a slight reoccurance once. Have lived here continuosly for 5 years now and I think my body has adjusted to its environment. Best of luck to you.

Hi Bertik

It's a wonder how many possibilities for the cause have come out in this post.

I have traveled 8 times to Patts and from memory, I think I have only had 3 trips without being sick or fever and they were the 1 st trips I made.

This trip I did eat peanuts that were offered with drinks at the "Drunken Duck" so It will be another item not to eat.

It is not so much the fever but the profuse sweating, could not over exert myself walking or lifting things,I would just start sweating.

There seems to be a few of the BM's who have had similar symptoms to mine.

I still think it might be the little blue pills that are the culprits together with possibly an allergy or virus that I might be getting from the BG's and the climate.

I spoke to my Chemist recently about the generic Kamagra and Videgra that is sold in Thailand and asked if they were safe.

he stated that any medication made in any other country was subject to the Governments control of what went into it.

In Australia the requirements are very stringent and all medication has to comply and is lab tested before it can sold to the public.

On my 1st trips I bought and took Viagra from home and had no problems.

I started using the Thai products from my 4th trip on and that is when I started to get the fever and sweats.

The advantage at the time was simply convenience and cost, Viagra in OZ was selling for about $69 for 4x 100 gram tablets.

My chemist now informs me that Viagra is now selling for around $17. They were forced to drop their price because of the

competition from sellers on the net.

So next trip I will stock up with Viagra from home and see how it goes.

Thanks for your imput
