Police Thursday morning continued their campaign to smash Phuket's notorious taxi and tuk-tuk cartels by destroying illegal taxi stands in Cherng Talay, Kata-Karon and Kamala.

it's a good thing what they are doing, the police. "attacking them at the grassroots level, i.e. on the streets" is what they should do against every single one of such annonyances in Thailand.

I am happy this is happening, but I am really curious as to why it is happening.  The police surely must have been aware of this or even directly or indirectly been involved all these years.
