Have somebody visited Nakhon Phanom lately? Does there exist beer bars or some other "evening" activities? I'll most likely go and visit there on next month or later in this autumn.

been there mate, there is nightlife there , but not farang friendly.

There is no nightlife other than some Karaoke bars full with Thai blokes. Not recommened.

I heard they have a place there where the expats meet but couln't find it.

 

Stock your fridge early, the 7/11s there lock up the alcohol shelves at 10 PM.

That's funny.  I was in NP in April (2014)and there was plenty of nightlife.  Several nice bars along the riverfront road.  Not falang friendly?  They were very friendly to me.  Near the bus station there are a couple of clubs that cater to young Thais, but I have been to them and felt quite comfortable.  

 

Perhaps the previous posters are expats who live in NP and want to discourage visitors?

IMO you are better to cross the friendship bridge over the Thakhek... selection of Lao and Viet ladies there. Head to Mindee-Jay hotel for Viet
